Seems highly unnecessary. MTL shouldn't be sending assets for a guy they can take a run at for free in two years.

Doubt WPG considers this.

Yeah but there's also zero chance the jets lose him for nothing and a trade also needs to address what they lose being a big body top 6 player (dach)

Jets get assets for someone who might not stay and mtl gets their dream child while jets move up in the first but mtl still keeps the same amount of first and dump armia and for basically a late 2nd

The Habs would want Dubois to add to their current core, not subtract from it. In a few days, Dach is going to lead the team in points - he should be as off-limit as Suzuki and Caufield. They still have multiple needs to address before making such a splash. Trading all those assets for a player entering his prime years while having no future #1D, no future #1G, etc. is just paying a king's ransom to waste the first couple of years of Dubois. The timing is simply much better when he hits FA, as they'll have a legit chance to get him then while still having Dach, the higher 2023 1st, Kidney and the 2nd.

The difference between Dubois and Dach is not all that, it is maybe a 2nd and good prospect.

Canes will likely take a shot at him at the draft if he doesnt wish to re-sign in Winnipeg. Maybe we can convince him.

One player is ppg with 52 points in 50 games and the other one has 32 in 49 games the difference is a prospect and the swapping of the firsts in this case

Possibly would be a nice combo of aho and Dubois just might be harder with the Cap and asset wise in that case

Cap we are fine. we are 5k short of 30 million in space. Asset wise you may be right what would a Tkachuk esque package look like from the Canes?

I haven't the slightest idea but the cost would be dependent on extension in place or not

it isn't though you are asking us to trade back 10-20 spots in the first round that alone is worth more than the difference between PLD and Dach

if not, I would guess its no more than our 2023 first and a small piece to be a rental (and maybe re-sign later).

extension could be something around Teuvo (with a chance to extend), Drury a 1st and we can figure something else out.

There's certainly almost no chance Winnipeg adds their first to the deal if that is all that is coming back and they definitely won't be taking a cap dump back.

There's a fairly large difference between a 24 YO 1C and an okay 2nd line winger like Dach.

The Jets have no leverage with PLD, he pretty much controls his own destiny and he's calling for MTL.

Then you can have a Josh Anderson. Not a 22 year old whos averaging 60 pts

Horrible trade for MTL. If Dubois rumors are true, WPG won't get more than what they got for Trouba. A 1st around 20th and a top 6 / top 4 young player. Barron and a 1st is more likely.
