Colorado shocks NHL at TDL

Description
Vancouver gets great value for Pettersson who may not want to be there committed to a team with so much dysfunction. There is talk about buying out Garland which I have no clue why.

Vancouver gets a young center in Foudy who is really coming into his own in the AHL and was just nominated to the allstar game. They get a bluechip defenseman in Byram who has injury concerns but those were more for his concussion and this latest one was a LBI and is getting ready to return. Another 1st rd pick in the loaded 2023 draft also helps and Newhook who is better suited for a top 6 winger roll than center but has been improving over the last few weeks.

Avs on the other hand get a 2nd line center and to fill that gap that need to make another run at the cup. Getting Garland gets us a fiesty player which is what you need in the playoffs as long as Mack doesnt throw his helmet at him again :)

This is the basis of the value and other picks/prospects could be added.

Avs would have to pull the TB special and use the LTIR to their advantage and put EJ & Helm and another player there to have the cap room for this to work which would be fine as EJ has been playing like a 7th/8th Dman this year anyway. And Helm is out for the season so its not like we are losing anything.

In the offseason they will probably explore a trade with Girard or Towes (if he doesnt extend contract and he would obviously give us more value on a return)

Maybe if Byram could stay healthy and if Newhook didn't fail to take a step this year

Or if the salary cap didn't exist

You're already $6 million+ over the cap... before MacKinnons ext kicks in.

So EJ & JTC come off for 9.5.... where's the rest of the money ?

Nice response no thanks from Van Petey ain't going anywhere. If we had to deal him would take more then that. And not retaining on Garland

I mean if things go smoothly its a fair deal. But Byrams concussion history is scary and Newhooks production is a small concern too. What about Byram, Girard, EJ6 and a 23 first for Garland no retention, Myers 50%, and Petterson? Some smaller peices could be added if I got the value wrong to even things out.

There's no deal to be made for Pettersson. None at all.

1 that’s an over pay. 2 Garland sucks and MacKinnon hates him.

Byram isn’t out with a concussion it’s an LBI. Newhook has been playing all year with a blender of linemates and Bednar went on the record and said he wanted to play Newhook with Landeskog and Nichushkin. And MacKinnon hates Garlands guts it goes back to Shattucks and was part of the reason he launched his helmet at his head, and there isn’t any planet where any team trades half of their d-corp. COL will gladly roll along and get healthy before they do a bunch of stupid moves.

A Petey trade would probably be more like 3 firsts, Newhook & Girard to give value to Vancouver (bearing in mind it would require a significant overpay to prise Petey out), and there is no way Colorado would be taking on Garland. The hatred between MacK and him goes back a looooong way. That's also about the only way the cap would work for Colorado going forward.

Credit Newhook for 7pts in the last 8 games. 12 goals only one away from last yr total; looking like he'll ecplise 40pts. Hoping he keeps it up, playing well with LOC & Cogs, & takes that momentum into the playoffs.
