I keep seeing a lot of trades that have LA receiving Chychrun and Vejmelka while dumping Petersen for less than the current reported asking price of Chychrun alone. There's obviously no way Arizona is going for that.
The reported current asking price for Chychrun is "Two 1 round picks or prospect equivalents, plus." Whether or not that's a reasonable asking price is irrelevant. Arizona seems content to hang on to Chychrun if they don't get their price, so there's no reason for proposals with any less.
I don't think goaltenders are worth 1st round picks, and I don't think Vejmelka warrants some of the crazy returns that I've seen around here. I think he's worth a 2nd round pick and a "good" prospect. Not Byfield or Clarke good, not even Kupari or Spence good, but also not a career AHLer.
Turcotte and Durzi would usually be worth more than a 2nd round pick, but Durzi is too old to be a top quality target for Arizona's plans, and Turcotte has too many question marks surrounding their development, so they lose some value here.
I've broken the Kings best assets down into three tiers. Not all of these guys are available, and I didn't include Anderson or Bjornfot who won't be moved due to positional needs.
Tier B
Top quality lesser pieces: Turcotte, Kupari, Durzi, Spence
2nd round picks: 2023, 2024
-----
Tier C
Additional assets: ****emo, Madden, Thomas, Pinelli, Grans, etc.
3rd round picks: 2023 (x2), 2024
-----
Chychrun will cost two "Tier A" assets and one "Tier C" asset. Vejmelka will cost one "Tier B asset" and one "Tier C" asset. If the Kings want to dump Petersen, it will cost a Tier B asset.
Based on that, here's the minimum amount I think the Kings would realistically have to give up to get Chychrun & Vejmelka out of Arizona while dumping Petersen.
My conclusion is that it's too much and the Kings shouldn't do it.
I'd value Durzi and Spence both being right shot playing the right side defensemen higher on the value chart then Kaliyev any day of the week. Kali has a great shot but there are plenty of young left handers out there with a great shot. But I definitely agree with the fact that if the Kings were to try and target both guys from AZ that it would cost them way too much.

This isn't pure trade value, but rather what each player would be worth to Arizona. Durzi is 24 and older than what they're looking for in their rebuild time frame. Spence has great potential, but that's not realized at the NHL level yet, and Arizona would value a sure thing over a guy who has had massive success at lower levels, but hasn't been given a real shot in the NHL yet.
Kaliyev has proven to be a strong two-way player that is a scoring threat in the NHL. His 5v5 offensive production hasn't been fantastic, but he's deadly on the power play. His defensive play is above average as well. Given that he's only 21, I think Arizona would value him higher than Durzi.
I like your thinking. If you want something sometimes you have to overpay. First question, do you as GM want these two AZ players. My answer yes. Then if that is the case your trade is reasonable although I think you can replace Vilardi with Turcotte.

Chychrun yes. Vejmelka meh.
The price would have to come down significantly before I'd be willing to trade for either player.
Kings aren't trading 3 roster players and shaking up the team that much. GMs don't like doing that in season, especially this deep into the season. AZ wants future pieces and LA has plenty of those. This deal makes no sense for LA.

There's only 2 roster players included here, but other than that I agree completely.
Personal opinion (not that it means much) is that if you can get Vilardi, Grans, and a first In a package for Chychrun and one of the UFA forwards as above, I'd take it and run. Take Walker, Wagner, Grundstrom or whoever back to make salary work. I'm in the minority among Coyote fans, as I'd be happy with something around Kaliyev or Kupari and a pick for Vejmelka. He's hurting the tank. Spence is interesting, but understandably Kings fans love him. Durzi is worth more to the Kings than Coyotes, imo. Who knows how the clubs feel, though. LA remains my favourite to land him because there are so many possible pieces for them to work with.

I think you pretty much just said the exact same thing that I did.
1st + Vilardi + Grans = 2 Tier A + 1 Tier C assets for Chychrun
2nd + Kupari = 2 Tier B assets (which is a bit more than I said he was worth worth, but if Arizona takes back Petersen as a cap dump then we're good)
I also agree that Durzi is worth more on the open trade market than he would be to the Coyotes.

Yeah, I wasn't arguing with anyone. Just adding my two cents. I'd personally be happy with something like that. You could add Petersen, Walker, etc to make salary work if necessary. Arizona could deal from their pile of expiring contracts to help even things out or have a slew of draft capital to help close a deal for the specific pieces they want. That's why I think they can eventually find a deal that makes both GM's happy.

Well the point of my post was that this is how much it would cost, but I concluded that it was too much and the Kings shouldn't do it.
Understandable, but I still think they'll get something done. Too many possible pieces, each team is in a position to help the other on several fronts, and too much smoke.
