Given the fact that new GM Jason Botterill has many ties to Pittsburgh and Fleury, and with Fleury being supposedly available + Lehners future still undetermined, do you think the Sabres make a move on MAF?

I don't know why people don't see Lehner as a good goalie. He put up a .920 SV% in 59 games last season behind an abysmal Buffalo defense.

I personally like Lehner, but he was Tim Murray's guy so I'm not sure if Botterill has Lehner in his plans.

I am on the 'Lehner-is-a-starting-goalie' side. I mean, he has a .920 save percentage so i have no idea why everyone is saying how they need a goalie ... though there's always a chance they get him after that playoff he had. I voted for 'probably not'.

Yeah, ubelievably I'm on the same side as you too.

I think Lehner is a starting goaltender, but if the Sabres could pull off a trade like this, I'd be fine with moving him

Winnipeg Jets
Robin Lehner
Casey Nelson
2017 2nd round pick
2017 6th round pick

Buffalo Sabres
Jacob Trouba
2018 3rd round pick

The Jets need a goalie in the worst way, and the Sabres need a defenseman in the worst way.

Everyone who's seeing this trade idea, it would be muchly appreciated to give your 100% honest opinion.

To me that seems like maybe a bit too much for Trouba. I really don't see Trouba as the next Bobby Orr.

He is probably considered a really high end top 4 RHD or possibly even a decent top pairing RHD.......... Trouba will not be cheap.

Yes, maybe when Doughty is 38.

We do need a goalie but not at that price. The goalie market is a total buyers market right now so we could easily nab a Grubauer/Raanta/Elliot or any other tandem pairing goalie for much cheaper. Trouba is better than Larsson and he got Hall in a trade so we would prefer to keep him as he would only be moved for an equivalent LHD.

Who is 'we'? By your username i'm guessing you mean the Jets but i think Connor Hellebuyck is pretty good, and i believe he's good enough to be an NHL starter. If you mean the Sabres i think Lehner is good enough.

He definitely has the talent to be a starting goalie, but he probably needs at least another year of tandem work to reach that "starter proper" tier. He's still only 24, which is fairly young for a goaltender. Getting an older guy like Fleury, who has two years left on his deal, or (dare I say) Elliott on a 1 year deal could give Hellebuyck the proper time and development he needs before he can become a 55-65 game starter.

Exactly, also why we don't need to move a huge asset in Trouba to fix the problem.

Elliott is too off-and-on.

That's the point in a tandem system.

Trouba was by far Winnipegs best dman this year...I can't see them moving him unless the price is crazy

After one season? He hasn't proved himself to be better than Byfuglien or Trouba.

Morrissey was better than Buff this year, no question. His stats aren't padded because he saw no PP time but was very good and very consistent whereas Buff is a complete mess in our end. Morrissey and Trouba are on equal footing as both are very tough and very good at transitioning.

Trouba>Morrisey>Big Buff

Rangersfan, Trouba is better than you think

Gojetsgo, I don't see Trouba and Morrisey on the same level right now. And since this thread is about a trade, Trouba definitely holds more value than Morrisey in any deal for numerous reasons
