Horvat to Dallas

Created by: bogdown
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 29, 2023
Published: Jan. 29, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
VAN
  1. Gurianov, Denis
  2. Harley, Thomas
  3. Stankoven, Logan
Additional Details:
Dallas is rumored to be one of the teams that is aggressively after Bo Horvat. He would slot in on the second line between Sequin and Marchement as their centre for the foreseeable future with a contract extension in place. Thomas Harley is a piece that the Canucks would target in a Horvat trade, a young LHD who is worth a late first round pick. Stankoven is the big piece in this deal. A small centre prospect, but an extremely skilled one. Wyatt Johnston has showed that he is able to translate his game to the NHL level as a young prospect, but I wonder about Stank given his small size. If not Stankoven than I could see the Canucks really wanting Johnston in this deal. Gurianov is a guy that needs a change of scenery and Vancouver could re-sign him and give him a shot.
2.
VAN
  1. Boqvist, Jesper
  2. Foote, Nolan
Additional Details:
Three guys that could all benefit from a change in scenery. The Canucks unite the Foote brothers with their Dad behind the bench and bring in Jesper Boqvist as a project piece.
NJD
  1. Boeser, Brock ($1,650,000 retained)
Additional Details:
The Devils have kicked tires on Brock Boeser and could be interested if they don't pursue a Timo Meier trade. This allows them to keep their assets and work on rejuvenating Brock Boeser who hasn't fit into the Canucks system but still has the potential to score 30+ goals.
3.
VAN
  1. Kapanen, Kasperi
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
This seems like a classic Rutherford move. He pushed hard to acquire Kapanen in the first place to Pittsburgh and does it again, this time for Conor Garland.

Stankoven would be hard to give up, what about Maverick Bourque.

Would probably want some retention going for Boeser if the price is Bo and Foote, but it’s probably not far off price wise if at all

Can't see Jersey doing that deal since they most likely want a top 6 winger in Meier than more wingers in the mid level.

And Dallas doesn’t have anywhere near enough cap space to sign Horvat to an extension

Was going to say the same thing. Boeser around $4m to $4.5m.

Eh, maybe. Stank, Johnston, and then Bourque

That's a lot of cap to eat for the next two years. Boeser at $5-$5.5m is more realistic

If they are going to burn a retention spot, why not retain as much as possible to get better returns? Team is about to go through “Major Surgery”….give the patient the best odds to walk out alive.
