Don't see why Leafs value Barbashov so much. Garland may/may not be good value for 3 years at 3.1m. Is Gavirlov really that much of an improvement over Holl to pay a first?

Vancouver is beginning a rebuild, and you don't rebuild by giving away a top-6 forward for a third-round draft pick and an Unrestricted Free Agent. For that package, you'd be lucky to get Travis Dermott back; the Canucks would probably give you Dakota Joshua as a cap-friendly move.

Garland is their seventh-highest scoring forward, and with two of the guys ahead of him on the table being Boeser and Horvat, it's highly likely that Garland will ascend in the ranks next season.

-getting about $1.9M in retention over the next 3 years would cost at least a 3rd; Kerfoot is a pending UFA who has minimal value to a rebuilding Vancouver team. There's no value for the Canucks here so they would probably pass.

-I could see St. Louis pushing for something extra (mid-tier prospect like Ryan Tverberg or something like that) but a 2nd rounder for Barbashev when he's basically on a 40-point pace feels fair.

-Rumored ask for Gavrikov is a 1st & 3rd without retention, so this deal probably gets beat by another team that wants Vlad.

Bare minimum acceptable for Gavrikov, so you're going to get outbid.

Really? His production isn't that much better that Kerfoot's. His 9 points in 50 playoff games.....well enough said.

Even if the Canucks thought that little of garland (they don’t) there is simply no way they are retaining that much money for 3 more seasons after this one. Even Buying garland out would be far preferable to this

Well over half of those he was used in a 4th line role, however, last season when he wasn't the scoring wasn't really that great.

I'm not sure how you consider a late 2nd next year valuing someone so much though. He's never been a primary scorer and he shouldn't be considered one when looking to acquire or sign him. He's a very flexible forward who can score close to a 2nd line rate (depending on where you see that number at probably at a 2nd line rate (40-50 points is pretty fair) ) and plays a heavy game, especially on the forecheck.

For example, Calle Jarnkrok was traded from Seattle at the deadline for a 2nd, a 3rd the following year and a 7th the year after. I'd expect a pretty similar return to that if not a bit more after Barbashev's season last season. I know not all trades are going to be +/- the same as there are no complete comparables for each player. But that's a guy that was expected to solidify a bottom 6 and have the ability to play up a bit and score around the .5ppg mark.
