my first sell attempt

Created by: markykins1
Team: 2022-23 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 30, 2023
Published: Jan. 30, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
These players can all help playoff teams with their hustle, vet experience and versatility which they have to one degree or another. My example to where they could go but you could mix and match them or find them in demand with other teams for their playoff runs for sure.
Trades
1.
WSH
  1. 2023 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Caps essentially move up in draft position from mid 40's to 30 ish.
TOR
  1. Sheary, Conor ($750,000 retained)
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
50% retention and draft position switch from 30's to mid 40's. Sheary would upgrade the 3rd line scoring and is a great hustler. Is very versatile to play effectively in the top 6 in case of injury.
2.
WSH
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (NYR)
NYR
  1. Hathaway, Garnet ($750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Any team in the playoffs would benefit from GH's trouble making, pesky style of play which works well in the playoffs. Great hustler to enhance Rangers 4th line.
3.
WSH
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
I think Caps could maybe get more for him but didn't want to start a riot. ;)
VGK
  1. Gustafsson, Erik
Additional Details:
having a real good year and has been playing in the top 4 regularly with success. Would definitely enhance scoring top 4 for playoffs.
4.
WSH
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
I think he deserves higher than a late 3rd rounder because I love me some 'Tiger'.
BOS
  1. Eller, Lars ($1,750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Boston 4th line is meh but that isn't stopping them. Eller is a good 3rd line center on the downside but he's good with the puck and really hustles, can score a little bit and is very good on the PK. Will take too many penalties sometimes but again, this won't hurt Boston.

Boston has zero use for Eller. Hathaway on the other hand…

Hathaway and his style of play will garner plenty of interest, but not for a 2nd. Probably hoping for a 3rd, at best. And likely not from the Rangers.

He turned down an extension this summer so I don't think the Caps can/will afford him.

Thanks. Again, these guys could go anywhere and if not NYR then a number of other clubs...

I was hedging my bets I guess because not too many here are fond of giving up 1st rounders. wink

A 2nd for Hathaway is optimistic. Eller is okay but the cap hit is high so pass. Would prefer Johansson or van Riemsdyk personally.

If the Caps decide to sell, they better SELL. Orlov and Jensen would both get really nice returns at the deadline, and there's probably picks to be had for TVR and MOJO. Unless there's an extension set with Orlov or Jensen, I'd ship them both out if the direction is to sell.

Yeah I think gmbm will need to keep a few of these players to field a semi competitive team after tdl so I image all those you mentioned could go also.

That's totally the more realistic route. I also get that they'll want to keep at least one of Orlov/Jensen and it most likely depends on which contract works better for them, but it'd just be frustrating to sell at the deadline and still see someone walk when you could've had a nice asset or two for him.

Can you send a link to that report? I hadn't heard anything like that, but makes things interesting. I think Washington could get more for him here though

I think Eller is more interesting for NYR, but I doubt enough for them to bite on it.

Agree. I think either of them would help NYR solidify the 4th line. They are both very hard working and both playoff veterans that would be a net positive.
