Description
Pagnotta has the Canes in on ROR. Knowing that the Canes do not give up 1sts or pay big prices for rentals, I thought this made sense.

Feel like we would have to make the 2nd round pick a 1st round or add a better prospect than Drury which we just don't really have that we would be willing to trade

Then they just pick him up in free agency when he walks away for nothing... he's had injuries and is in the middle of a down year, you cannot make a genuine case to say he's worth a first at this point. He just isn't

I like Drury, but yeah I can't see the Blues moving O'Reilly without a first. There's already been talk of re-signing him so if they don't get a great offer they will probably (foolishly) do that. Maybe I'm wrong. I know the Canes probably won't deal the first. Trade deadlines are fun!

what one thinks he is worth and what he might get are 2 completetly different thing. im just saying this offer might get beaten. sure the canes can sigh him next offseason, but they will want to upgrade for this playoff run. i think the canes should go for a big name.this year, im 100% ok with them moving their pick to get a top rentals, whoever that may be.

23 year old who can’t score in the AHL and a > 30% chance at someone who will play in 2026… I’m not like crazy optimistic about what ROR brings back, but it’ll be better than this.

Sure hope the Canes aren't in on ROR.

ROR at that price is of little interest. He has been 3C level this season with offense and worse on defense. Lebrun mentions the Canes having no interest in moving Drury either.

I majorly doubt it. He's not that good anymore. Drury's AHL scoring is fine and he's had regular NHL time this year. An early 2nd that isn't far off in value from a late 1st next year. He's not going to return a 1st this year, I can tell you that right now. There's too many better alternatives.

Better alternatives than O’Reilly: Horvat and who? The guy has scored 49 points in 51 playoff games that last four years. He’s still good.

He's also not the player he was in recent years and has been dealing with injuries. Other alternatives: Hayes, Toews, possbily Reinhart or Bennett. Or if you want to look away from center, Tarasenko, Kane, Meier, Chychrun... there's not enough leverage to return a 1st for ROR. He's having a down year, his value is really low right now

Ah yes dealing with injuries. The old broken foot from blocking a shot that seems to be peskily slowing him down.

Players with as much recent success as ROR don't lose value to the point where they're traded for a tweener forward who has some upside probably to be a 3C and a 2nd round pick in the next years draft. I doubt that Carolina trades Drury, i also doubt STL has much interest in Drury as the main piece to a deal for either ROR or Tarasenko.

Situations are different, but if you want someone who has playoff experience and success there isn't another center likely on the market aside from Toews. Toews holds pretty much all the cards in his situation, isn't paid out of 90% of his actual salary for the season already, has a higher cap hit, and has struggled for a couple of seasons. Not just 30 games.

That being said, I think Toews would be a great pickup for a team that wants to push into the playoffs. I think ROR would be a better one but thats besides the point. Regardless, even with Toews holding all the cards for his situation, i'd venture to guess he gets a better return than what is proposed here for ROR.

If you want to base an evaluation of a player based off of a card that shows 37 games on a team that is a tire fire be my guest.

The point being was that a player who has had this much recent playoff success and even regular season success in the last 3 years more than likely wont be valued based on a 37 game sample size playing with Josh Leivo and Brandon Saad who was an absolute ghost.

So you're blaming his decline on the team and his linemates? Have you considered that ROR just isn't as good as he used to be? He's not worth a 1st anymore, he's not going to return a 1st because of the better alternatives?
