if thats the case why not for future considerations? why add the assets when you could try to sign him after he is bought out?

So on July 1, Vancouver -- a rebuilding team -- is going to have nothing on the main roster to show for a top-6 forward with 3 seasons of term? And after having exchanged Luke Schenn, a viable defenseman worth at least something to some contender, for the virtually-useless-to-Vancouver UFA Kerfoot?

I think that the "rumors" that the Canucks are considering buying Garland out are as greatly exaggerated as those fabled rumors of Mark Twain's premature death.

All these Trades for an undersized winger in Hirvonen to Vancouver are not going to happen, we have our share of those as it is the need is at center and RHD. Schenn most likely pots a 2nd pick on his own and garland probably a B+ prospect(RHD/Center) or high 2nd low 1st round pick.

As python3504 pointed out, the Leafs wouldn't be offering up anything for Garland at 4.95m if he's a buyout candidate. The Leafs would just take advantage of that situation and ask for retention on Garland so that acquiring him would be favorable and then they would pay accordingly for him and Schenn. I don't think they would want Hirvonen, but instead a potential replacement for Garland or a RD. They are most likely going to get any C prospects that they want in a Horvat trade, but they probably want someone who can score to replace Garland so maybe Robertson instead of Roni or he could serve as a sweetener.

Garland (w/ retention)+Schenn for 2023/24 1st+Robertson+2025 3rd (+Hirvonen)

What do the leafs want with another small forward? We need a guy to dig the puckout and go to the net.
