A Meier deal that doesnt suck and a trade after

Created by: CapFriendlysFinest

Description
The reason I LOVE trading for Meier or the idea of it is he's an RFA after this season. You control where he goes. If you could fit him into your plans great but more than likely you can trade him. You could easily in theory get yourself a low first or good prospect for his rights if not higher than that. Thats why the Leafs give up 2 or their top 5 best prospects and a 1st in the deepest drafts. You could regain some of what you have lost because of this RFA status. If he was a UFA, the most you could get for his rights maybe a 3rd.

Is this enough for Meier?
1st, A prospect, B Prospect, 2nd and 7th for half retained Meier?
Trades
TOR
  1. Meier, Timo ($3,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Leafs get Meier at half off. Likely would play on second line HOWEVER, I think having him center a third line would make the team so much deeper!
SJS
  1. Niemelä, Topi
  2. Voit, Ty
  3. 2023 1st round pick (TOR)
  4. 2024 2nd round pick (TOR)
  5. 2024 7th round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
Sharks get a great pair of prospects who are likely NHL bound. Unlikely stardom but likely both to key players on a future team. Sharks get a 1st in a deep draft and a 2nd the following season.

A 1st, A prospect, B Prospect, 2nd and 7th would be enough for Meier, but you havent offered that here.

Niemelä is a B prospect, and Voit is a C level prospect.

A fair deal is Knies , 2023 first +

Can Meier even play C as you suggested? I don't think he can, so that probably wouldn't lead to a deeper team.

Assuming there are no big pushes made for Meier by other teams, then I think the Leafs could get away with offering the 2023 1st+Niemela+Robertson+a 2nd+ a sweetner (still might not land him) but they are definitely going to want Knies and a first. It only makes sense since Knies has the tools to be a great Meier replacement in terms of skill set. Robertson's shot could be something that interests SJ, but of course his size+injury history and his current injury are going to be deterrents.

Meier has never played C at any professional level

Robertson and his injuries can stay in Toronto.
