If we did this trade a month ago I would’ve been fine with it. But after losing 10 out of our last 13, scoring over 2 goals just twice over that stretch, it is baffling to me that Lou thinks this move will get it done. Now we’ll either just miss the playoffs or be a first round exit, lose our top prospect, a chance to pick a guy in the strongest draft since 2015, and potentially have the guy we traded for walk in free agency. It’s absurd

just a perfect example of a lose lose trade. It makes zero sense for the islanders to do this while out of the wildcard and how do you only get that for Horvat after the miller debacle?

Unless he extends for 5/6 years at under 7 mil, it sucks. Plain and simple. This is a cup or bust move. Plus no retention sucks

They didn’t give up much. Raty is alright. I’m not as high on him as some. Beauvillier is just a dime a dozen. So easy to replace, not a big loss. Do we think that was a cap thing? I just dont see any value in him. The first is worth a lot, for sure.

If the islanders can get him extended, this is a real good move for them.

it has protections lol. And tbh i kinda forget but if this ends up top 12 and goes to 2024, unless you get 1st overall and Kivijaru, it wont really be that valuable.

Can’t really see that happening. That trade had like 50 pieces.
We know what beauvillier is. He’s nothing.

Maybe raty takes a big step? I haven’t seen it. The first rounder is a real good piece. Probably will be somewhere in the high teens.

This trade seemed like it was made by a desperate islanders fan on here who was expecting to be booed for it anyway. But it wasn't. It was made by a gm who has won GM of the Year twice in the last 3 years.
He better have a contract ready to go for Horvat. Like now.

Also, as a person who is unfamiliar with both Horvat and the Islanders, is Horvat the type of player that the Islanders need? He seems to be another player with good skating, good hands, and a lethal shot from in close and a bit further out. Correct me if I'm wrong about any of it, but isn't that what the Islanders already have? He's an upgrade, this season especially, but it doesn't seem like he's filling any holes.

I meant in terms of the first getting differed and becoming a top 5 pick

We needed a goal scorer a month ago. Now after losing 10 out of our last 13, it is very obvious that this team needs far more than “goal-scoring”, it needs youth. Raty and the 2023 1st would have provided that

It’s top-12 protected. If the isles 2023 pick falls within the top-12, Vancouver gets the isles’ 2024 1st

The Most Important Part is "Not Overpaying" him! It's all about the cap. Anything over 7.5m is crazy, unfortunately for NYI. Which is fine by me! Two lottery tickets and a body is ok return.

Potentially a top 15 pick in this draft, a great C prospect is pretty good. Better than a late late first round pick and a B prospect you all thought he was getting

24 goes unprotected also if isles end up in top 12, older lineup and some bad luck could make that 24 pick rather interesting also.

Yes but if the Isles fall off it becomes an unprotected 2024
