This is what Lou does ... see Devils, NJ. He pushes and pushes until there is just nothing left. It works for a time, but a few bad drafts and that's it, no where else to go.

Nah, it isn’t. A Big Mac from McDonald’s is the same price for a poor person and a millionaire.

But they bought a Jr chicken. Won't satisfy anyone

Or

Exactly they got a big Mac. Looks good on paper, but full of regret in the bathroom later

Lots of good metaphors for this bad move involving McDonalds

Too expensive for something that won't satisfy their needs. Top 12 protection helps but they need to get away from these brutal bandaids. Desperate move from a GM that knows he's near the end

And when you're poor you can't afford bad investments haha

You missed the entire point of this. Wealth vs poor doesn’t affect price.

This was a good price.

They were analogies, not metaphors. Clearly you did because you’re still missing the point.

Debatable. Horvat Hasn't extended yet, so this is a hefty price for a rental. Especially considering the Isles are fighting for a wildcard spot that they aren't securely in.

When Raty is arguably your only "good" prospect, him and a 1st are definitely something you might consider keeping.

That wasn’t the point of the discussion.

This is a fair rental price.

Maybe on the market, but not for the Isles specifically.

That was the point of MY discussion.

Which is just a completely different discussion. That’s a debate as to whether not making an acquisition was a good idea. This was whether or not it was a good price. It was a good price.

They did, a 1st and Aatu Räty could/should (?) go top-10 in a re-draft... It's almost certain Horvat regresses to what he is next season, a ok 2c making top C money...

Please, Lou hasn't done s*** for 5 years to improve the offense while Isles had a legitimate cup window, rather he closed it by trading away Toews for scraps and letting Eberle walk for free... The window is now shut thanks to him and now all of a sudden he decides to make an all-in trade that doesn't make sense at all and in the process he trades away a really, really good prospect in Aatu Räty and a 1st.. + Beauvillier has been s*** this season but I wouldn't be surprised if he bounces back nicely for the Canucks. Horvat is having a career year with crazy amount of puck luck with shooting and will be overpaid as hell for 7-8 years - there's no logic in this at all. Isles should be sellers for sure.

Oh no, they were analogies? Well that changes everything...
You think it's fair, I don't like the deal. I'm not missing anything. Based on you don't think Raty is 'special'. Whatever that means. He's also 20 still developing. Tage Thompson wasn't special at 20, hell he was considered a bust at 23/24. We don't have a crystal ball, but he's been developing very well since being drafted. Half a point in the AHL at 20 is very good. It's hard to score in that league. He has transferable nhl skills and only needs to work on minor details to easily be a 2nd line centre. 1st line being his ceiling because his puck skills are that good. Horvat is having a classic contract year season. This story happens every year. Career 0.65ppg, 14 s% has over a ppg and 21 s%. Won't be sustainable, especially on the isles where offense goes to die. I hope he does well though, I like Horvat, hope he proves me wrong. But this is a desperation move from a GM that can see his job slipping from him.

Ya, you’re missing everything. If this was just i think it’s a fair price, you don’t….whatever. Move on.

The point being discussed was you were saying someone a fair price is different depending on whether or not a team has a rich prospect pool.

You missed everything after that apparently.

And I disagree. It should matter, young players fill cheap roles. Kind of important and Isles have nothing of substance after Raty that can make a difference offensively. 10k to 1 person isn't the same as 10k to another in your terms. Also consider they're outside a playoff spot and not looking good the cost can hurt as soon as next year and amount to nothing this year. Say hurricanes traded, they're prospect pool is flush, well in a playoff spot and a much better position to make a trade like that. A similar price doesn't hurt long or short term. You don't agree and that's cool but this narrative I don't get the debate is silly. More than happy to move on

Nothing about that affects the price. 10K to one person is different than 10K to another, but 10K still buys the same thing. That’s the whole point. The price was good. You can argue all you want as to whether or not being a buyer made sense for the isles, but the price is the price. The islanders got a good price.
