You're not getting a full year Dubois for less than Horvat got as a rental. You're also not going to be able to include a cap dump like Edmundson.

Less than zero chance Winnipeg waits 3 years for the 1st.

You'd have to pay Ylonen and Harris just to move Armia. Isles esssentially paid Raty to move Beauvilier's deal that nobody wanted and fit in Horvat's retained salary.

PLD doesnt fit the salary structure. You are dismissing Owen Beck here. Mesar can also play center. Just signing PLD for 8 years at 8m AAV is a disaster without the return price tag.

Horvat isn't a rental, can't compare his value to Dubois. CGY 1st could be 2024 between 20-32 or chances at a 2025 high pick. Edmundson has value as a rental.

You're mixed up. Horvat is a rental, Dubois isn't and is also younger and better. So, yes you can use Horvat's trade value as a bare minimum for Dubois.

If Dubois will only sign with MTL, then he is a rental for all the other 30 teams.

With all the NYI gave for Horvat, i'm sure they have an extension signed and he's not a rental.

Horvat is a UFA at the end of the season and islanders currently don’t have the cap space to resign him

That’s the definition of a rental

I dont think they gave all that for a rental. Trading Beauvillier give them enough cap space for Horvat

Possibly. But with all the information we have right now that is a slim possibility for Dubois and even if it is true, it is a full year of Dubois, so that makes him worth more than a 2 or 3 month rental.

Without an extension in place for Horvat, he was traded as a rental. They may hope to sign him, but he was traded as a pure rental. I know you want to cling to the assumption that they know he is resigning to justify the lowball offers, but again with what we know right now, Horvat was traded as a pure rental.

It was also widely reported that the Canucks were not allowing teams to speak to Horvat's agent before the TDL. So another very strong piece of evidence that the Islanders traded for Horvat as a pure rental.

No way they gave that much for a rental. They know he's extending. If he does, then Dubois price is half that.

Nope. No evidence supports that. Horvat even confirmed yesterday that he has not talked to the Islanders about an extension. Sorry to burst your bubble. I don't think there are any more straws for you to grasp at.

I already told you and i'll do it again, you're too intense. No bubble bursting. No grasping at anything. Just pointing out there's a huge chance the Islanders didn't give all that for a rental.

So your guess is they gave their 2023 1st and Raty for Horvat as a rental? That's your thought? I think that's very unlikely.

If Horvat extend with the Islanders before July 1st, then he wasn't a rental and that's why they paid so much.

If Dubois won't extend with any other team than MTL, then he's a rental for the 30 other teams, and would be worth a lot less than Horvat.

Lol. You've got a false narrative and are upset that it holds no bearing in reality so you accuse others of being too intense.

We have the fact that hockey insiders said, Vancouver did not allow anyone to speak to Horvat's agent before the trade. Yet you choose to stick to your narrative that the Islanders did tamper and talk to Horvat's agent ahead of time so that they had a good idea that he might resign in New York. Even though Horvat himself has said that he has not talked to the Islanders about an extension. But again, you are assuming Horvat is lying and had talked.

If Horvat signs with the Islanders now or before July 1st, it has no bearing on the fact that the Islanders traded for him as a rental. They had no way of knowing if he would or would not resign. Those are facts, not opinions.

Trying to stretch the signing period to six months, just shows that you know you have nothing to back your assumptions, so you're trying to extend the signing period as long as possible, so you can use that to back your faulty assumption if by coincidence he does stay in New York.

There isn't a single fact that backs your opinion or adds credence to your justification of lowball offers.

You may not like it, but facts back up what Jet fans have been saying all along. You won't get Dubois for a handful of valueless pieces, no matter how much you wish it. The Horvat deal has given us a good idea of what a good center will cost as a rental.

From that we can extrapolate that a full year minimum of a younger, better 1C will cost more than what Horvat returned.
