What a Kane Trade Might Look Like

Created by: blackhawksfan22
Team: 2022-23 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 31, 2023
Published: Jan. 31, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Thought exercise, likely off on a couple of the values. I don't see a clear destination for him yet. I like the Dallas fit the most, but their lack of a 2023 1st makes them take a different asset approach to the deal.
Trades
1.
CHI
  1. Lauko, Jakub
  2. Smith, Craig
  3. 2023 1st round pick (BOS)
  4. 2025 2nd round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
They don't really need anything, but also have no reason not to go all-in. Doesn't hurt to upgrade the best team in the league. Kane could play on the 1st over DeBrusk or on the 3rd line as a scoring punch who helps the 2nd PP. Too damn good.
BOS
  1. Kane, Patrick ($5,250,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Lauko gives an option for a player who can get more time in the NHL on the hawks next season
2.
CHI
  1. Buyalsky, Andrei [Reserve List]
  2. Foudy, Jean-Luc
  3. 2023 1st round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
*Top 10 Protected 1st
Landeskog on LTIR until Playoffs in this scenario. Not sure they'd go this route vs a 2C, but maybe they think Kane could help one of their centers work with another elite winger on the other side?
COL
    Kane @ 50%

Not many picks to deal so a B-/C+ prospect in Foudy, a hail mary of a prospect and the 1st (with protection just in case) works.
    3.
    CHI
    1. Bourque, Mavrik
    2. Gurianov, Denis
    3. Khudobin, Anton
    4. 2024 2nd round pick (DAL)
    Additional Details:
Kane would slide into their 2RW Role well
    Marchment - Seguin - Kane
Or this just gives an additional piece to help other pieces move along the top 6.
Bourque isn't a huge loss with Wyatt Johnson, Dellandrea in the NHL ahead of him and Stankoven on his way. He is the equivalent piece here of a lateish 1st.
Gurianov has fallen off, playing on the 4th line, and his contract moving helps facilitate this deal. Likely wouldn't be resigned.
Khudobin was a king in the bubble, but here is a cap dump to get the money to work.
They may need to add a 4th line grinder after this deal, but don't lose another 1st.
    DAL
      Kane @ 50%

Bourque helps the forward prospect group look a lot better and could get a solid look in the NHL next season.
Gurianov may be too good for the tank, not that he is actually good, but if he rekindles his old game that's no good for us this year. A Piece that gives an NHL body to the team, and may get extended but likely not.
Khudobin rides the bench in Rockford or the NHL depending on injuries but helps ensure Soderbloom stays in the AHL like he should have been all season
      4.
      CHI
      1. Berezkin, Maksim [Reserve List]
      2. Foegele, Warren
      3. Lavoie, Raphael
      4. Puljujärvi, Jesse
      5. 2023 1st round pick (EDM)
      6. 2024 2nd round pick (EDM)
      Additional Details:
Oilers add Kane to a lethal top 6 currently moving Derek Ryan down the lineup, and leaning into their offensive strength. Allows the top 6 to be jumbled as they wish.
Puljujarvi gets a change of scenery, has played poorly this year and moving his cap hit helps this deal.
Warren Foegele isn't a bad player but is not worth what he is being paid, and getting his deal off the books for next year while adding Lafferty in his place at $1.6 MM less is an upgrade on the ice and on the cap sheet.
Berezkin is a throw-in, shot-in-the-dark prospect to make the deal happen.
      EDM
      1. Lafferty, Sam
      Additional Details:
      Kane @ 50%

Lavoie is an ok prospect, with high upside but bad Skating which is not what the team is prioritizing, but there isn't a player like him in the system right now.
Puljujarvi gets a change of scenery.
Foegele helps the cap floor next season and takes a bottom 6 role.
Berezkin is a throw-in, shot-in-the-dark prospect to make the deal happen.

Losing Lafferty isn't great, but he helps maximize the return.
      5.
      CHI
      1. Kravtsov, Vitali
      2. 2023 1st round pick (DAL)
      3. 2025 4th round pick (DAL)
      Additional Details:
      Kravtsov hasn't panned out.

Having 2 1st rounders help bear the thought of losing a 1st.

Adding Kane to this team could help immensely as they have needed a legit piece on the RW for a while. The Metro isn't as daunting as the Atlantic and helping a shot at the ECF is worth it.
      NYR
        Kane @ 50%

Kratsov is a change of scenery play.

Kane could demand going to the NYR.
        6.
        CHI
        1. Kerfoot, Alexander
        2. Minten, Fraser
        3. 2023 1st round pick (TOR)
        Additional Details:
They have to make a huge swing. Might be better suited going for Cyhchrun or a decent 3C. Kane allows them to do whatever the hell they want in the top 6.
Kerfoot hasn't performed in the playoffs, and is not that good, don't care.
        Minten is a decent prospect.
        TOR
          Kane @ 50%
          7.
          CHI
          1. Mantha, Anthony
          2. Protas, Aliaksei
          3. 2023 1st round pick (WSH)
          Additional Details:
          *Top 10 Protected First

*They also deal Lars Eller in a different trade to clear cap concerns. This move saves them .5m in cap space.

Mantha has not performed like a 5.7m/yr player. Getting him off the books for next year helps.

Ovi-Strome-Kane could be otherworldly with depth behind them.

Protras is an ok piece, but not a huge loss. Feels like a Capitals style player, though
          WSH
            Kane @ 50%

Mantha could be flipped next season. Protas is a good piece to add to the system.
            8.
            CHI
            1. Frasca, Jordan
            2. Hållander, Filip
            3. Kapanen, Kasperi
            4. McGinn, Brock
            5. 2023 1st round pick (PIT)
            6. 2024 1st round pick (PIT)
            Additional Details:
*Both 1st round picks top 2 Protected.
            PIT
            1. McCabe, Jake ($2,000,000 retained)

depends on the player but when you enter "add" to retain and you enter the number that is up to 50% of the current cap hit, for Kane you can enter 5250000

This is going to sound crazy, but i don’t think the bruins are upgrading. I think kane is a downgrade on both of the lines that you mentioned. Debrusk is out producing Kane at this point, and really fits with that line. We all know Kane doesn’t exactly play a third line style, and Frederic has been producing more than Kane at 5 on 5 from an offensive perspective. I just don’t see the upside here.

Use the "+" symbol next to the player after you add them to a trade.

BOS has every reason not to spend big and upgrade. They may be really good this season, but the writing is on the wall for them in the long term picture and their pipeline is pretty empty.

Avs pass - they don't need a wing (especially one that doesn't play defense) and aren't going to pay that sort of price for a rental anyhow.

BOS has every reason not to spend big and upgrade. They may be really good this season, but the writing is on the wall for them in the long term picture and their pipeline is pretty empty.

So you think the righting is in the wall for this roster because of their age right ??? So why would they not be all in ?? This is best Bruins team I have seen yrs . They need depth because of there age because they might burnout playing every night in playoffs . This team should be all in this year . The point of playing is to win the cup not to look good in the regular season ( Toronto ) the Bruins will go into major rebuild for next season or the season after that's a given . All the more reason to be all in now . I would sacrifice 5 seasons of bottom ten finishes to win a cup without question . As would just about every team and player because that's what this is all about . I am a hawk fan aswell and feel the pain but knowing I got to see my Hawks lift the cup 3 times makes it worth it . Very few fans have seen their team in this day and age win three championships in ten yrs .

Yeah, because of their aging players and the thin prospect pool. I don't think BOS should spend big because they are already the most complete team in the NHL by a pretty large margin and they have a really great team chemistry going on. You don't want to mess up that chemistry. If they need to relieve some of the stress off their older players they should be bolstering the bottom 6 and adding depth with players that can eat some of those minutes. They don't have to expend all of their high end assets in order to do that. Those assets are going to be VERY important to BOS in the coming years. I mean, if BOS is offering and Kane and Toews want out and are willing to go to BOS, we'll take it. But I very much doubt things will unfold that way.

Totally agree with not messing up the chemistry and don't see them making a move other than a depth move or something like that.
