I don't hate it. I know the Meier price will freak people out but it is what it is. the only no is Gustafson and Chairot seem like a disaster waiting to happen. I'd just sign a more defensive guy there.

Gustafsson is having a great year in WSH, and if they let him go, he's got some decent underlying stats too. Over the past 4 years, he's sat between 55-65 CF%. Could be a low risk / medium reward signing as a 3rd pair guy but I'm always open to suggestions!

If this source is to be trusted, then it does fit SJ's ask: LINK
Quoting: Article
What do the San Jose Sharks want in a trade for Timo Meier? It sounds like three pieces. “What I’m hearing is a first-rounder — and one Grade-A or two Grade-B prospects, or one good prospect and a young, established NHL player,” a source told San Jose Hockey Now.

Young, established player = Rasmussen (and if you haven't watched him and want to judge by points, I would advise against that)

Good prospect = Mazur (recent praise below from Pronman):
Quoting: Pronman
Mazur’s significant upward trend of development over the last few years has carried into this season, where he’s been one of the very best players in college hockey. His skating and compete level have always been positives in his game, but the level of offense he’s showing right now is quite significant compared to a few seasons ago. Mazur can shoot the puck, has good hands and offensive sense to go with his speed and direct style of play. He’s looking like someone who could be a top six winger in the NHL one day.

Who knows with this unknown source but I just don’t see the potential in either. Rasmussen is a 3C and Mazur who knows. I just see San Jose getting much better offers from the likes of Buffalo and Jersey to name a few where they get much higher end prospects

Rasmussen has played 1LW and 2LW for a very large chunk of the season, stepping in for draws for Larkin at 1C while he Larkin nursed an injury. Ras isn't really a 3C anymore, as he is more effective as a winger, though he is hovering >50% on FO's over the last 1.5 seasons.

Ras's history is odd. Because of the CHL/NHL agreement, he was forced into the NHL early and hadn't really matured into his body. That has taken him some time, but this year and last we're seeing some steady strides with him using his body more effectively and playing a bit more of a PWF role. He's a sturdy, dependable player, and I'm now starting to think his future could be at 2LW with a lot of time spent on special teams.

I could see NJ sending Holtz and Sharangovich, both of which seem to be question marks right now, along with their 1st. I don't see that offer as any better as this, personally, without trying to be too biased. I'm not sure what BUF would offer.

That said, we have a plethora of 2nd's and/or B-prospects which could be included if it tipped the scale and Timo's contract asks aren't too astronomical.

I think Grier would like the size of Rasmussen but not sure wings would be willing to give up enough to tip the scales. And I think Holtz, sharangovich and a 1st is a bit better. Much higher end prospect

One other thing to consider is that, even with Meier, DET's 2023 pick will likely be 5-10+ spots higher than NJ's. I imagine nobody will send an unprotected 23 1st considering this draft's depth, but Detroit's with Meier will probably be in the teens whereas NJ's could easily be in the low to mid 20s.
