I'd take that if I'm the Canucks

The value is good but the Canucks don't want to retain that much. Rather take back Johnsson's contract.

It’s not this year we are worried about. It’s next summer, when Johnsson will be off the books, and we got Bratt, and some dmen that need new deals.

I understand that but it doesn't make retaining 2M+ on Boeser any more appealing for us.

Didn’t think Canucks would want to spend to the cap just as they are entering a rebuild. Shed some salary, stay lean, add some picks, prospects….usually how it goes. But you all would know more than me about Rutherford’s plan.

Nobody has a clear handle on Rutherford's plan.

Shedding cap is exactly what we are trying to do in a Boeser trade and retaining 2M+ defeats the purpose. I think we'd rather get less value back and clear the whole contract.

Boeser at $6.65m is less appealing. He would essentially be taking Tatar’s spot in lineup ( $4.5m).

The buyout cost would be similar to retention, but has a couple more years.

From what we've been hearing it sounds like Boeser has decent value/interest around the league. The contract is definitely the biggest obstacle in moving him but we could also just wait until the offseason when there's more flexibility and cap certainty. I don't think Boeser is in danger of being bought out.

I think the most we'd be willing to retain is 1M-1.5M and ideally it would be 0.65M to get him down to an even 6M. If we are retaining anything over 1M I suspect we'd essentially want the return originally proposed. I think I remember that the Canucks liked Zacha and Zetterlund last year when Garland/Boeser rumours initiated.

I doubt he is bought out too…was just using it as measuring stick. What if we included our 1st? Do you think VAN would retain 50% (along with Zettertank)?

A 2023 1st would be very tempting. 3M+ in dead cap is horrible, but another 1st with a younger, cheaper roster replacement is very difficult to say no to.

Tbh I don't think management would do it but I honestly can't decide if I would or not. I doubt New Jersey does it anyway.

Everybody asks for same thing. Holtz+1st.

I do think we move our 1st this year. Maybe not at deadline, but at draft. Probably for a forward and without Holtz attached. Just a hunch. Just unclear what the best option would be.

I think Boeser would be a good fit for NJD.

Boeser (50% retained) for Holtz + 2023 1st is a no brainer, we absolutely do that.

I can see Boeser being a good fit for New Jersey but the trade is the toughest thing to gauge.

No Holtz. I am just saying that seems to be the prices of everyone.

Just a 1st and maybe lesser prospect.

Zetterlund is 3 years younger and having a better season than Boeser.
Why would the Devils do this?
