Description
Chevy talked about seizing the moment if an opportunity presented itself. I think the opportunity is staring him right in the face, he just has to “seize the moment”. Jets have to win this year, but acquiring Meier and Chychrun extends the window a bit. Sure they may lose PLD this summer, but elite wingers can carry an underperforming C. I’m convinced Perfetti could play C between two elite wingers.

Seeing reports that Meier will fetch similar to what Horvat got. I figured that since Meier will be a pending RFA and a bit younger he’ll get a little more in a return. Also his previous performances call for a bit more of a return.

Chychrun is the wildcard, as the jets don’t necessarily have to make a move on D. I think Pionk has been horrific this year and every single year he’s been here besides the one in the all Canadian division which looks like an outlier. If the jets could somehow upgrade pionk and a few pieces into Chychrun I’d be very happy. Probably seems counterintuitive to subtract two pieces on D in Pionk and Samberg and only add one back in Chychrun but I think samberg is a bigger trade chip than others. Lambert is added as a quality prospect to put that deal over the top. Although without a 1st Arizona probably has 0 interest in this deal.

Hah, I wish. Not sure arizona would enjoy that. I already think the deal as it is isn’t enough for chychrun anyways.

2nd needs to be a 1st, then it'll depend on how Arizona feels about Lambert. Pieces like Samberg and Pionk won't mean much to them.

Samberg has value as younger LHD who can play a larger role. But pionk likely isn’t worth a whole lot. Agree that the 2nd likely needs to be a 1st and even then it might now be enough due to lambert maybe not being what they want.

I'd do whatever it takes to get Meier and extend him! Personally, I'd pass on Chychrun. No denying he's a good player I just wouldn't want to pay that price. I'd rather target a 4-6 D on an expiring deal at the deadline.

I'd say the odds of Meier extending with the Jets would be extremely low, while a great player its just not worth the risk to the Jets, they can't afford to risk multiple good assets on what would essentially be a rental.

That won't get Chycrun but they do need him or someone similar, they really need another legit top 4 dman and one who's closer to a #1/2 which Chycrun is considered to be, since he has term imo he'd be worth investing assets in.

This narrative around Pionk is false and massively overblown, Idk where it started but it needs to stop.

I just look at the holes this team has and Idk if the Jets have the assets or wherewithal to part with them to make them an actual contender.

You think all they need is a #4-6 dman? I think they need a #2 at least, after Morrissey the drop off is substantial, Idk if any of the rest of the Jets dmen are even true top 4 dmen, doubtful if they'd be on a true contender anyway.

Look at Pionks career with the jets. He’s been a #5 dman at best based on stats, with the exception of the all Canadian division year in which he had a great year. Other than that he’s been below average for the jets.

Also yeah, not sure Meier signs here long term but worth a shot.

Jets need an upgrade on D badly.

Räty was not a top prospect either…

He was a 2nd round pick who had a solid year in Liiga, and now just over .5 PPG in the AHL.

Chibrikov is a nice wing prospect with good stats in the league he’s playing in. Played on an awful KHL team and hardly saw any ice. Likely comes to NA soon too. Plus Heinola on top of that who’s NHL ready and needs an opportunity to play which he’d get in SJ. It’s a better package than what VAN got for Horvat. Could always swap Chibrikov to a different B level prospect.

Unless Meier is coming extended already in a sign and trade its not worth the risk.

Really what stats say Pionk was the Jets #5 dman compared to the rest of the Jets trash dmen in the 19-20 season?? Any stats that say the likes of Poolman, Bitetto, Kulikov, Beaulieu were better then Pionk should go in the trash!
*To be fair Kulikov was actually pretty decent in his last year in Winnipeg and has gotten good reviews since moving on from what I can tell from other teams fans reactions, maybe its a Jets issue?.. lol

And let's be honest, until this season Morrissey has been pretty iffy and downright bad a lot of games since the latter half of the 18-19 season, many were calling for him to be traded and now he's a Norris trophy candidate.. lol

Most Jets fans thought Forbort sucked, now he's averaging 18 minutes a game for the best team in the league.

Idk, Pionk has mostly struggled this year but there's been some good mixed in there too, can say that about pretty much every Jets dman other then JoMo though, still a bottom 10 defense in the league imo and Idk if a team could win with a low ranked defense.

Do agree the upgrade on D is very much needed, need someone to pair with Morrissey who can eat minutes and ultimately move DeMelo down to the 2nd or 3rd pair and as unpopular as this will be it'll get Samberg out of the lineup, while better then Stanley he hasn't been all that great, like wtf was he doing on that second Blues goal last night?.. lol

Pionk has been bad his entire jets career besides the all Canadian division.

I should have worded that better. Absolutely I would love a #2 behind Morrissey, I just think Chychrun is going to be way too expensive and maybe we should target someone with a little lesser value.
