Nothing out of line about either of these deals. I would strongly prefer not to give out any more 2+ year deals to guys like Reaves, Schenn, Steel. Those are bottom of the lineup players that you can cycle through yearly for league minimum, and we're learning with Goligoski why you don't give those guys term (and especially trade protection).

Would be interested to see if Goligoski is willing to waive his clause to play somewhere. Very questionable move by Guerin. He didn't even get a bargain for him in that 5M year. That was already an overpayment, and in exchange, he had to give him another bad contract? Guerin got bent over in that deal.

Pens decline. Even with Dumo walking the pens will still have 8 nhl defensemen already. Don’t need another expensive dmen.

I get not wanting him, but at that point it would be 2M for one year. That's hardly expensive.

It is for a team that’s cap strapped needing an extension for its starting goalie and needs to severely upgrade their 3rd line. He’d be the teams 6th best d at absolute best. Possibly 7th or 8th best.
