If you mean this season, as your title implies, it seems to me that the only reasonable and inexpensive stopgap in the Western Conference is Sean Walker.

Long-term possibilities, other than your excellent idea earlier today, are Connor Murphy and Ian Mitchell from Chicago.

The problem is Walker has another year. And he’s not the solution in the top 4. Is Mitchell good now?

I agree walking isn't bad but he isn't top4 material. We need another player with the same caliber as Zub.

I thought that you wanted somebody for the rest of this season and next, while JBD and Thomson develop. Even if one of the youngsters can play on the second pairing next year, Walker would be an ideal #3RD.

Mitchell has been injured virtually all season. He has the tools, but he's a dart throw. But that would make him cheap.

I would play JBD full time on the 3rd pair next year so that leaves a hole on the 2nd pair

same. I would trade brannstrom because big boy Kleven will take his spot 3rd LD.

    Chabot - Zub
    Sandy - _____
    Kleven- JBD

I don't see anyone like that being available this year, at least from the Western Conference, other than the aforementioned Murphy. And there's no one in the free agent class likely to fill the bill: most of the righties becoming available on July 1 are either too old, too expensive, or else just not suited for the job [{cough}Klingberg{cough}], with the possible exception of Scott Mayfield.

Unlike most years, this summer's draft has a preponderance of right-handed defensemen. Given the wealth of forward talent at the top of the board, if you guys select before the Florida pick, you should have the chance to choose from at least two of Sandin Pellikka, Dragicevic and Reinbacher. And the second round should be chock full of possibles -- remember that Anaheim needs help there, so I've been looking.

Addison is rumored to potentially be on the block. I wouldn't love losing him, he's still really young and could be a stellar defenseman down the road, but sounds like the organization views him as expendable with Faber and Spacek in the system. I imagine he'll get something like $3M AAV on a 3ish year deal this summer, so he wouldn't be overly expensive.

How’s his defence? I feel like they need a defence first guy

Not good, but he's only 22. He won't ever be a shutdown guy so if that's what you're looking for he probably isn't the best fit.

I feel like he’d be a good fit in Seattle then playing with either Oleksiak or Soucy
