Idk... I have no interest in Clague, and barely any interest in Rousek.

Not way better Horvat is an over a PPG center, C >> W Meier is a little more protected as an RFA. I don't think their values will be wildly different

Agreed he isn’t way better, but if I’m Grier I’m touting that he was traded without a deal and got that and likely Meier will have a deal. I would expect more

Doesn't seem very promising. Looks like an AHL guy or someone who will go back to the KHL.

Horvat is having a career year in a contract year. Meier is consistently good. Horvat gets his payday and goes back to being a 60 point average 2nd line center. Meier continues to be a top line winger. Much rather have meier

Centers are still centers. I think Meier is worth more as well for reference, as I said, I don't think the value will be wildly different

Rochester has been good at bringing out the defensive side of players and fixing their positioning. Kisakov will be an NHLer. I'm not calling him Ovechkin 2.0

Arguable
Horvat is a Center, a Center who can match up against other teams’ top lines- that’s pretty valuable

Not saying Meier isn’t a heck of a player himself
But he’s a winger who isn’t particularly known for his defense either

Meier may be “better” than Horvat,
BUT they’re both pretty close in value imo

Watch him play & you’ll change your mind
Kid has talent
But like MANY Euros- particularly Russians- coming to N.America has been an adjustment

Will he hit his ceiling?
Hard to say
In Buffalo, he most likely won’t bc we have so much young forward talent it’ll be had for him to break through here

But if given the icetime & opportunity to have a legit chance to develop, the talent IS there

Here’s the thing:
-you’re getting a 2nd for McCabe, and u won’t get sizably more
-if u don’t like the specific prospect, we have others in that talent range to choose from, but you’re not getting an “A” level guy- no way
-and Clague is just a guy who can play in the NHL & fill out a roster spot for u guys if u don’t wanna bring up a kid to fill McCabe’s spot- and of u do, Clague can be sent down nbd

You’re focusing on the wrong part of the trade
It’s McCabe for a 2nd +
Just don’t expect that “+” is actually gonna be something you’d be all that excited about

Unless the Sharks happen to be big fans of Kisakov,
then i think we’d have to add to that

I don’t think your value is too far off
BUT
We not only have to keep in mind what the Sharks would find valuable & want,
We also are going to have to outbid other teams to get a deal done

I’m thinking of it like this:
Jersey is supposedly offering Holtz + a 1st
So what do we have to do to (at least) beat that??

And easy piece to add on our part would be Portillo,
as they’re reportedly looking for another good goalie prospect

Probably still have to throw in something else as well- OR- take out Kisakov & improve that piece

Just my assumptions from what I’ve been seeing though

Horvat isn't great defensively either and this is the first time he's done anything noteworthy on offense

We've had plenty conversations with other Buffalo fans and we ended at mccabe for a 2nd and Josh Bloom. If the prospect coming back is on the older side for prospects or if it's a left defenseman then the hawks would holdout for something better.

Well, that's all debatable. But I wasn't saying it wasn't fair(ish). It just seems like a "scraps and a pick for a player" slapped together kind of deal, without any consideration for what CHI actually wants or needs. Regardless, I think it gets beat or at the very least, CHI would be negotiating for completely different players coming back. I also think that if another team wants retention and is willing to give up higher quality pieces to pay for it, I'd take that offer any day of the week. But, at straight up face value, I would maybe take this. The thing is, CHI also isn't in any rush to trade him. That offer is just mediocre enough to say "meh. we'll just keep him and not make him pick up his life and move across the country again." At the very least, he would be a great leader and mentor for all the young defensemen we have coming through the pipeline over the next few years.

Horvat might not win a Selke any time soon,
but he’s got the ability to match up against other teams’ top lines & come out on the right side of +\-
He’s above average for sure

Well neither you or the Buffalo fans you’ve talked to are making the trade
And your opinion of what’ll happen in real life isn’t any more valid than mine
