I don't think Bertuzzi will be a HUGE cost-- but I don't think a 3rd and a fringe player gets it done... There will be at least a few teams willing to bid, which likely drives the price up closer to a 2nd, or a higher level prospect with the 3rd rounder.

What is there to bid on a guy with injury history and has 5 points in 18 games played?

EF didn't say it so it can't be true!

It's been reported that at least Dallas & Calgary are also interested in Bertuzzi.

GMs job is to buy low, sell high. Bertuzzi's value is low, but DET needs to get something.

Kerfoot is needed at centre, LWer not so much. Gotta believe Bertuzzi gets more in a trade, if he play well in the next month,

So why do you want him if you don't think he's good or can stay healthy?

Just doesn't make sense tbh - We dump a forward with 23 points and a PPG of 0.45 for a 7th rounder, to acquire a player with 5 points (and a PPG of 0.29) for a 3rd rounder

I acknowledge the long-term context of Bertuzzi being a better player than Kerfoot, but the Leafs are focused on this season, and this season this hurts the Leafs roster.

I wish all the best to Bertuzzi, but it makes more sense for the Wings to sign him to a one year extension and for Bertuzzi to hopefully get back to full health and rebuild his value

Lol this is funny. We would just resign him if that's the offer. Both sides have stated that they want an extension.

Bertuzzi doesn't get you anything. With this production, it's safe to say he is more of a cap dump than anything

What else would he say? "Get me out of Detroit" while under contract? Lol

It has happened many times before with players requesting trades. No point in selling low on bertuzzi, especially to a division rival.

And why wouldn't many other teams think the same thing?

Keep him then, Bertuzzi isn't even at the middle of the list of players that I want. If it's for a 3rd + C level prospect, I would still be hesitant but would consider. Anything more, Leafs will be happy to look elsewhere

Injury concerns and UFA, he doesn't have a big market that Red Wings fans think he does. If you honestly believe Bertuzzi could get you a 1st+ (or just a 1st), man I can't wait to get a ransom when we trade Kerfoot

So why doesn't that effect your team?

We would just look elsewhere if the cost is high. Friedman reported that the Leafs don't even want to do a 2nd + B level prospect for Jake McCabe (who has term). We are super cautious of who we are trading and the assets that we are giving up

Then do that. The point is that there will be a certain amount of interest in Bert as the market starts drying up. Especially since he can probably be acquired for well below what he was worth a year ago due to his 2 injuries this year. However I would be very surprised if he can't return at least a 2nd

You just made a point why teams will be reluctant to trade fro him. If he is injury prone and teams know that he is one injury away from missing the rest of the season, why would there be a market for him. Why would teams want him?

Just don't be upset the most you could get for Bertuzzi is a 3rd. Kerfoot has more value than that injury prone forward grimace

You aren't understanding though. Why would we trade him to the Leafs for a garbage return? We would just keep him....

Also hilarious, every trade deadline Leafs fans like you come out in waves, making trades for Bertuzzi. So clearly your fanbase wants him, you just want him for a nobody and a 3rd round pick, which isn't gonna happen.

Detroit declines as there is nothing in that trade that warrants consideration.
