My plan for the Habs towards summer 2024

Created by: MONSTER1974
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 1, 2023

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is what I feel the Habs can look forward to by the summer of ‘24.

Caufield gets a significant raise.

Xhekaj gets a bridge deal.

I think RHP plays his way onto the team.

Room will be made for Hutson and Mailloux.

We will need a top pairing RHD, and an impact #1 goalie to make this team competitive.

This exercise shows 25M$ in cap space. 8M$ of that goes to raises for Xhekaj & Caufield.

I’ll set aside 2M$ for “other” things.

That leaves 15M$ on a dman and a goalie.

The other deals expiring can be renewed at minimal raises, of replaced with players of similar salaries.

If in 2024 Pezzetta is still here I'm jumping off a bridge
Funny how every year, people think 18-19 yo rookie will make the team
I remember when we were doing a 3rd line of Lehkonen-Ikonen-Ylönen
24 yo RHP is playing is first couple NHL games
    23 yo Ylönen isn't a regular yet
But 19 yo Owen Beck and Logan Mailloux are regular ? (ok they will be 20 yo in 2024) but still, can't see it
Until they prove they can stick with the team, let's wait
Sean Farrell will be the closest one to be NHL ready
Harris did is 4 years in school before making the jump, Hutson does 2 and make the team after ?

There’s a lot more hype around Hutson than there was around Harris. It’s been said he would’ve been a top 10 pick if he was bigger. He seems to have grown an inch or two depending on which reports you read. Combined with the fact that many consider him one of the top d-men in the NCAA, seeing him in a Habs uniform in a year an a bit isn’t that much of a stretch.

As for Mailloux, Francis Bouillon was quoted on air saying he’s the closest to the NHL of all prospects. Combine that with the lack of quality dmen on our right side, it’s not outrageous to see him here in a year and a bit.

Beck: he’s a Suzuki clone… cerebral 2-way player, and Suzuki played 1 game of AHL playoff hockey before cracking the habs roster, a roster that was better than this roster I might add.
