Bruins retool

Created by: mfiore
Team: 2023-24 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 1, 2023
Published: Feb. 1, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Bruins enter a retool year; Bergeron and Krejci retire

The Bruins need to clear a contract in order to re-sign Pastrnak to $11-12MM per season.
I have Bruins trading Ullmark to LAK. He voids NMC to play in big city and contender with gaping hole in net. Bruins go high risk high reward with Byfield, while giving a pick to sweeten. I understand LAK may not be willing to part with Byfield this early. Its only a hypothetical candidate. I still think BOS would shop Ullmark for a young center who have struggled early in his career. Bruins open up more cap to sign Swayman to bridge deal. Obviously not a great team (especially up the middle), but it allows BOS to recovet some assets and draft picks, while building up a farm system.

Conceptually i really like the idea of trading ullmark if neither bergeron or krejci return.
mfiore liked this.

You're still over the cap with overages from 37 & 46 contracts. You'd have to get rid of Reilly or Gryz.

I also think that's an underpay for a goalie who will most likely be a Vezina finalist, if not the winner, for a guy who hasn't produced in the NHL as LA hoped, although a small sample size.

I disagree, I can't see LA trading Byfield for Ullmark
I can't see LA trading their future 1C for a goaltender
Alex Turcotte make more sense
Ullmark isn't worth a blue chip prospect IMO

He is the Vezina favorite making only 5 million per and only 29 years old, many teams would give top assets for that. I mentioned in the caption that LAK might not want to give up this early on Byfield.

Bruins can unload reilly attached with a mid round pick.

Ullmark plays behind a really good team, the sample is too short for teams to consider him a top goalie
I don't think only a mid round pick is enough to get rid of Reilly contract, we saw recently it costed a lot to move bad contracts
Bruins will be in cap trouble as well, no one would want to help them for a guy who isn't making a team better
