“ Carolina wasn’t adding Horvat without the possibility of an extension. Depending on how roles shake out on Long Island, would the Hurricanes pivot to Pageau? Certainly feels like a Rod Brind’Amour-esque player.”

I’m struggling with this one. I do like JGP but what does he really bring to the table that the Canes don’t already have?

I know he’s a good two way center who can win faceoffs, but how much offense does he really bring?

i hope not. Having JGP, Staal and KK on the roster is quite redundant. We all know Staal is coming back, so, do we trade KK in the off-season then? JGP is having a decent scoring year but he isnt worth much more than 45 points.

Friedman, like many others, see a potential center available and auto link us to them.

Agreed with what Fried said, but I just don't see why the NYI would want to trade him. Bump JGP down to the #3C where he'd be REALLY good. It's not like the NYI are hurting for cap space next year. Even with a Horvat extension they don't have many roster spots to fill and prospects that likely need NHL ice time. It's a nice idea and something Fried can talk about on his show, I just don't know why Lou would want to trade him within the Metro.

He would seem more like an offseason replacement for Staal than an add now

He's a good guy but not a 2nd line center and it's 4 more years.

He’s a C and a righty, so is something the Canes currently are lacking, but unless the Canes are being compensated to take on that contract, it’s hard to see how he fits.

With a corresponding move for scoring, I could see it, but wouldn’t necessarily like it

I tend to stay far, far away from the wonderings and ponderings out loud from the Friedman's and Lebrun's of the world. They tend to be off more than they are on. If you are privy to the local coverage of your hockey organization, you already know better than those guys. I don't see JGP as a "Brind’Amour-esque" move at all. I could be wrong. But then I would have something in common with them.

I tend to agree, and see the random name dropping as code for ‘sources within the team (or player/agent) want me to make the connections here.
