Yeah actually they are. Wild aren't trading Marcus foligno. They don't need some dman in Rasmus..greenway might not even getting traded..wild aren't taking on dumps of Kerfoot, Justin holl..Rasmus who they don't need. Only thing you offer is knies and 1st

This somehow ruins Toronto's future while barely upgrading on the things they want to get

It's not working.

We don't care if the values good in a vacuum, asking a team to give up every ounce of size and physicality they have when they themselves are competing for a playoff spot is absurdly asinine.

because

no way a 9 f , + 2 2nd or 3rd pairing d + an elite prospect + a 1st and 2nd is equal to 3 bottom 6 forwards and a 2nd or 3rd pair d and a 3rd

Sandin still falls under A tier prospect (just because he's played NHL games doesn't mean he isn't a. valuable and b. a prospect, it's just that his floor is higher than most) but agree with your point

On the surface this trade makes a lot of sense for the Leafs as they gain size and cap flexibility with it. For most media, insiders and fans Kerfoot and Holl are seen as cap dumps. Can they play top 4 or 9 minutes sure, but they lack moving any sort of needle to most or all teams thus being put in cap dumb category or throw ins to make the cap work in trades.

Stating this: I'm a Wild fan. Breaking down the value of the picks/prospects (yes, Sandin is a prospect still) -- 1st, 2nd, Sandin and Knies is a lot for Folingno, Greenway and Middleton + 3rd. If the Wild sold those players in separate deals, I'm not sure they can get that value. When you add the cap dumps to this the value makes more sense, because the Leafs are getting exactly what they need for the playoff runs -- cost controlled size in the top 9 which can flex to top 6 and a top 4 big bodied Dman that can eat 20 mins playing on the top pair so Reilly can be more offensive (similar to what he does for Spurg with the Wild).

On the other hand, not sure this would be a smart move for the Wild, losing all of their size and the locker room captain of Foligno. Also, Middleton is needed over the next two years as the Wild go through buyout cap hell. The only real expendable asset is Greenway, because he can replaced by Duhaime who is probably willing to re-sign at 1/3rd of Greenway value and probably more than 1/3rd worse than Greenway. A lot of Greenways value doesn't show up on typical stat sheets -- controlling the puck, good defensively and creates space to make his linemates better and their jobs easier.

Neither Sandin or Knies qualify as "A tier" prospects or "elite" prospects in reality.

Knies is certainly an A-tier and bordering on an elite tier. Sandin is more B-tier, but was once an A-tier.

Knies is not an A tier prospect and he's not bordering on elite by any means. Just because a prospect is good doesn't mean they're elite or A tier. Sandin was never an A tier prospect outside of Leafs fans hyping him up like they do with most of their prospects.

Wallstedt is an A tier goalie prospect. Beniers was an A tier prospect. Sanderson was an A tier prospect. Brand Clarke is an A tier prospect. Jack Hughes was an elite prospect. Owen Power was an elite prospect.

I think you need to watch more Gopher games... He plays on a line with Cooley (elite prospect) and Snuggerud (A++ prospect) and Knies drives that line and is a bigger bodied power forward that teams love. If you don't think he is, at a minimum, an A-tier prospect well then I don't know what an A-tier prospect because he would be the one being asked about in any higher end deal (Timo, Horvat, Larkin, Kane, Chychrun, etc).

Yeah because he's Toronto's best prospect, of course he's gonna get asked about. It doesn't mean he's A tier or elite. Your valuation is way off and paves the way for every single team to have at least one A tier or elite prospect. It's just not accurate.

Knies having a good year next to two better players doesn't change anything about where he projects at the pro level. Grading prospects isn't about how well they're doing in any given year, it's a measure of what they project to be in the NHL.

So you project Knies as a true top of the lineup player a la one of the Tkachuk's?

You put him with Matthews/Marner and he certainly puts up at least Brady's points similarly how Matty T got to play with Lindholm and Johnny Hockey. I don't think he can drive a line the way the others can, but you are seeing that this year with Matty T not doing that much in FLA.

There are different types of prospects.... a power forward will not have the same "skill" as a top 10 pick, but I still do believe he is an A-tier prospect, because a prospect is still a prospect and it still seems most GMs/media/insiders consider him to be as well.

Whut?

Matt Tkachuk is the only one doing anything in Florida this year.

He currently has 25 goals, 41 assists, for 66 points in 49 games played. For reference, he's at a 1.35 PPG pace right now.

Additionally; Knies considered ceiling, right now, is that of a 2nd-line scoring winger with a 3rd liner floor. He falls firmly into the B+ prospect category.
