Devils won't be able to do this because they will have already spent their 1st and used their cap space on a player who is actually good.

In what world does Josh Anderson get that return?

Montreal would need to add a 1st minimum and take back an equal amount of long term bad contacts and/or cap dumps to make this an even remote possibility.

No one is taking Anderson as a cap dump without some heavy compensation.

They have been scouting him hard during the last 2 weeks. 3 scouts came out to watch games and practices.

Devils looking at both Timo and Josh. Josh costing a lot less. He will get you 25 goals

To get Timo you`ll need 2x 1st rd and Holtz as a minimum. Plus a $9M+ salary going forward. Josh is $4M cheaper

I love the complete hatred of JA from other teams lol I really hope someone trades for him this year so we can flip these "experts" off tears of joy

That pick should be going the other way, and even then the Devils still say no

They’ve been scouting the entire Atlantic division in the last 2 weeks

This doesn’t justify the cost regardless, as Josh Anderson is the 2nd least productive forward if he joins the team, and Timo would be one of the top producers.
Josh Anderson is not worth 5.5, so 4m cheaper than Timo doesn’t mean much when the player is still bad at hockey
And he isn’t even on pace for 25 goals in top 6 minutes. No reason to think he would net close to that in NJ where he would surely see more sheltered minutes on a better team

I’m sure there is a org dumb enough to move a 1st for Josh Anderson, and it will bite them in the ass like Florida massively overpaying for a bad defender in Ben Chiarot. It isn’t NJ though, since theyre too analytics driven, and all public models have very very low opinions of him as a hockey player

I guess you`ll trade for a player that you will not be able to afford going forward and having to give more assets for.

According the the GSVA value chart, that pick, currently 29 (which it's unlikely to end up as) would be worth - on average - 3 GSVA over that players first 7 years.

Josh Anderson, in the last 4 years including this one, has been worth 0.4 GSVA [-0.1, 0.6, 0.3, -0.4]. So that's 0.1 GSVA/year. So over the life of his contract with the devils - 4 years, he would be projected to be worth 0.4 wins, without factoring in aging curves of power forwards. He would also cost 4.6M more than the ELC player, providing an expected 1.72 wins.

No, thanks. We can use that pick in a better manner.

NJ can afford Timo Meier though… and it makes more sense to give premium assets up for a premium player rather than givining up one of those premium assets for an overpaid glorified 4th liner

The NJ pick is #28 right now. Not exactly a premium asset. I would consider picks #1-12 are considered premium. That pick will most likley be either Ziemmer, Stenberg, Ritchie or Price (not exactly franchise players)
