Description

Even if Columbus didn't want to be in tank mode, they and Washington are the only teams that have approached the Avs injury problems this year. They want to get Berard/Fantilli, they want the future and they want to get rid of Gavrikov for *something.* If Kuraly will waive, thoughts on this trade that (1) Is a pretty even salary swap for this year (2) Gives Avs depth for this year/playoffs (Kuraly replaces Helm as 4C/PK specialist) and financial latitude come next summer (3) Gives Columbus the best player in the deal -- a cost-controlled 2LD behind Werenski to replace Gavrilov for several years (4) Given Columbus gives up 2 legit players for 1 doesn't really make them better this year as they tank. Hudon could be any Eagles player who's low-end NHL/high-end AHL. Roster after break w/Nuke, Mason, Bo back.

Kuraly isn't going anywhere. Hometown kid, great B6 guy.

Gavvy's ask is a 1st and 3rd. I have faith in a Girard redemption trade, but not in, essentially, a 1-for-1; you're trying to trade Girard at the depth of his value - gotta be futures involved here.

Why do the Avs do this? They’re about to be in a cap crunch and trade for a $2.5M bottom 6 guy and a rental defenseman they won’t re-sign. Then in the off-season, you need to replace Girard’s production.

Doesn’t make sense.

This is trading Girard because well that’s who always gets traded in the ACGM. Like what is with the irrational diminishing of Girard? He is 24 is a top 4 dman on the Cup champions and has 4 consecutive seasons averaging 20+ minutes is signed long term to a sweet deal has a career average of 34pts / season getting zero PP1 time. But the solution is to ship that dude out for a pending UFA dman and an overpriced bottom 6 guy. This is not good and definitely not the answer.
