New Meier trade options

Created by: glarson17
Team: 2022-23 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 31, 2023
Published: Feb. 1, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
IMO Meier should return more than Horvat if he is traded with an extension in place. Horvat was traded without one and Meier even still has team control if there isn’t an extension.

I don’t understand Friedman when he says San Jose wants a goalie prospect. There aren’t a ton of high end goalie prospects that make sense to move Meier for.

Sheng Peng has an article stating the ask for Meier is as follows:
- 1st round pick + “A” graded prospect
- 1st round pick + two “B” graded prospects
- “one good young prospect and young established NHLer
Trades

SJS
  1. Levi, Devon [Reserve List]
  2. Östlund, Noah
  3. 2023 1st round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
To me this is more the two B level prospects. It fits friedmans goalie ask for San Jose, though it just seems odd to me that he says Buffalo is a fit for this reason however also states that Buffalo would be in on Demko

I know that was the report, but does SJ really need goalie prospects? I feel like Mann and Mäkiniemi will be solid NHL options soon, Makiniemi even next year, and guys like Chrona and Gaudreau also have good potential.

I thought that was odd considering the amount of goalie prospects they’ve acquired lately. Mann, makiniemi, chrona, beaupit, Gaudreau

I don’t see San Jose going for a goalie in a Meier trade anyway, don’t blame Buffalo for not wanting to move him.

1st/Shak/Casey is a good start. If you need another piece to put it over to the top, we put in Shara with them. Anything more than that we politely decline.

What I learned the last few weeks is that all teams potentially receiving Meier have very few C or lower prospects and pools full of untouchables elites and grade A prospects

Yes that was a joke. I did see him as more of a B prospect, see guys like askarov, Wallstedt etc as a tier slightly up

              Same tier

this is a fair rating of nj devils prospects: Hughes/Nemec- Elite, Holtz-A, Casey, Mukh, Gritsyuk-B, anything else is C or lower

The value on these are wildly inconsistent 😂

Seems right, but the article that came out with SJ's supposed asks of 1st+A or 1st+2 B's or "good prospect plus established young NHLer" seemed to reserve A grade prospects to elite tier prospects. They had Luke Hughes as a A, dropped Holtz into B, and Nemec was a "A/B tweener" based on the writers comments when people asked, citing that that's what his NHL sources ranked those players at. https://sanjosehockeynow.com/san-jose-sharks-timo-meier-trade-return/
He said about the Horvat deal that Raty is a B prospect and Beauvillier the "established young NHLer", so maybe that means 1st+Muk+Sharangovich just about gets it done.

That’s the point, the value Grier gave on trade asks were all over the board.

Pronman has Muk higher than Holtz, if Holtz is an A so is Muk

They aren’t though. It’s pretty clear by the report that Grier is willing to take quantity or quality, and spelt out what that meant. It wasn’t rocket science to put together that two B prospects equals one A prospect

Yeah I’ll make one from a sharks fan pov. Is Detroit rumored on being interested in Meier?
