If you're assuming that Matthews will want to move, it's bold to assume that he will decide to allow himself to be traded the coming off-season/season. It might be that he stays with the Leafs who are bound to be a playoff team next year as well, and then is moved in the 2024-25 off-season to his desired location for a 2nd or 3rd so that he can get the 8th year.
In which case, trading Nylander makes no sense at all. Just because they lose Matthews, doesn't mean they need to rebuild.
