If Blues decide to blow it up

Description
If Blues decide to blow it up at the deadline (trade Tarasenko, ROR), I find it hard for them to turn this offer down. Two very good prospects and a 1st round pick. Retention might not work for the trade but whatever. For Toronto, I think Buchnevich is exactly what they need. He would easily be their best LW, but I think having him play the majority of his minutes in the bottom six would solve a lot of Toronto's depth-scoring issues. He would also certainly take a few shifts in the top 6. Blues fans, let me know what you think. I certainly think going for a player like Buch would be much better than giving up (likely) an even bigger package for Timo Meier, who we can't extend anyways.

They may be willing to part with all 3 of Buchnevich, O'Reilly (although it sounds like he may resign for 2 to 3 years) and Tarasenko, but doubt they will retain 1.5m for 3 years even for that package. They are going to want to compete even if they retool. I think though the Leafs could probably afford Buchnevich at 5m or so.

What do you think would have to be added? Would it work with less retention?

I'm fine with that offer but Idk where people are getting this info that the blues are going to blow things up and trade Buch. ROR, Tarasenko, Barbashev are probably gone but there has been no indication that we are trading Buch. I'd probably bet on us keeping him and re-signing him in a couple years to an extension

The only explanation might be because of his age and the return they could get by trading him. If they do go the route of trading the names you listed, does it really make sense to keep a player that's going to be 28, and extend that player for the future into their 30s? They might be better off just gaining a massive return and having a short retool.

I don’t think army would retain on Buch and also they probably want a diffrent player from neimla given how they draft

He is still young enough to be kept for a retool in 2-3 years. Realistically If I'm trading Buch I'd want an A grade defensive prospect. Knies is good but our top 3 prospects are already wingers in Neighbors, Snuggerud, and Bolduc. Niemela is ok but if I'm trading Buch I'd like a better defensive prospect
