Well, for starters, he will sign in April, this trade will happen in June or July.
Also UPL is only signed through 23-24.
Also, Levi isn't walking into an NHL job, he will spend atleast a full year in AHL, likely more.
We aren't going to let our NHL team on the verge of playoff contention stall to cater to a college goalie who would need to delay his contract by 2 years to not sign
"Well, for starters, he will sign in April, this trade will happen in June or July." That would make this trade make less sense. If Levi is signing why trade for a goalie signed for another 3 years? This is the kind of move you make if Levi just doesn't want to sign here.
"Also UPL is only signed through 23-24." UPL has several years of team control. He's been playing decent. He's gonna be here for at least 3 more years.
"Also, Levi isn't walking into an NHL job, he will spend atleast a full year in AHL" Likely one season in the AHL & playing NHL games the year after. He can't really do that with Demko & UPL unless an injury happens.
"We aren't going to let our NHL team on the verge of playoff contention stall to cater to a college goalie who would need to delay his contract by 2 years to not sign" That's fine, but trying to acquire a goalie that's signed long term is risking damaging the relationship with that goalie. Levi isn't gonna be interested in playing in the AHL for 3 years with some occasional call ups.
You're gonna have to pick between trading for Demko or signing Levi
