Devils TDL-Prospect rankings

Team: 2022-23 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 2, 2023

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Here’s some ratings and explanations why: Luke Hughes (Elite)- PPG player at all levels. Currently at a 96 PNHLe. He’s not available for trade. Simon Nemec (Elite)- 2 OA pick in last draft. Currently a 70 PNHLe. World Juniors graded out as one of the top defenseman. He’s not available either. Alex Holtz (A)- Your concerned about his struggles? Well he’s been afforded no top line minutes and has only played 18 games with a bottom sox role. He struggled initially after arriving in North America in 2021, then proceeded to hit PPG in the AHL the following season. He is available via trade, but better believe the devils still value him very highly. Arseni Gritsyuk (B)- 72 points in 109 games in KHL in the last two seasons. Main Questions: He’s going to make an impact but will it be in next two years? Is the devils top six already set before he’s ready? Shakir Mukhamadullin- Well things have changed here haven’t they. Generally laughed at after being picked in the 1st round. Shak has developed nicely and is currently a solid 44 PNHLe in the KHL. He’s coming over after the KHL season for good. He’s stuck in a logjam with the devils depth chart. Seamus Casey- We got a steal in the 2nd round of this past draft. He’s a 63 PNHLe and he’s no one year wonder either. He’s going to be a top 4 defenseman, but he’s blocked here in NJ. All other prospects I grade out at C or below. I do believe the Meier deal gets done because we simply have the assets to get it done. The deal I propose is a large haul for SJ. Why do you ask I give so much? Because SJ will not just trade Meier without being overpaid. Grier has his back against the wall and has to win the trade. This is a win for both teams. Casey and Gritsyuk are phenomenal prospects but they are log-jammed long term.

Two more players needed to be added on SJ's side because they're at the 50 contract limit

The Leaf's 1st is enticing because they will lose in the 1st round again , however I think the Devils keep Severson for this year

I'd also look to move Mukhamadulin before Casey or Gritsyuk. I'd want to keep at least one of them. So essentially

Mukhamadulin, Gritsyuk, Sharangovich, 2023 1st

OR

Mukhamadulin, Casey, Sharangovich, 2023 1st

Yeah I think both would be acceptable to SJ

If you pass on that I wouldn’t want to counter. I’ll go grab Tarasenko if you wanna be greedy.

Go ahead and enjoy an older/lesser player that will most likely be injured come playoff time.

If you’re going to take the position of Mercer/Nemec or no Meier that’s absolutely what we’re going to do. You think we’re giving up those guys you’re absolutely insane

We give you Casey and Gritsyuk they’re easily your #2 and #3 prospects behind Eklund. Your pipeline is depleted don’t act like your have sure fire prospects because you don’t.

Fair point. Do you think substituting Shak for Grit is amendable? So you take Shak and Casey, Shara, and 1st

I dont love it, but its certainly not the worst offer I have seen. I really would like to get an A level prospect if we have to trade one of the best wingers in the league

Adds much needed depth to the D, established young player, and a 1st that likely is late but still good. I would do it

I’m willing to trade you Holtz don’t get me wrong. But structure changes. Amendable to Holtz + 1st, but not much more added to that.

I'd be happy with either of those. Could add Megna for defensive depth and pick one of Svech, Gadjovich, Bones, or Gregor. Maybe add a 2nd or 3rd for those guys.
Casey shouldn't count vs the player limit since he hasn't signed an NHL contract. So Timo and one other guy should be enough to make the rosters work if Casey is included

What are you talking about? Casey is a B+ prospect, Sherengovich has top 6 potential, and Gritsyuk is a solid B prospect. Add a first to that, that's a pretty damn good return.

Maybe the best out there, but you're acting like it's an insult to offer it

I'd take Bordeleau over either of those guys any day of the week, but I do like them a lot (I actually dont know much about Gritsyuk but he has pretty good production in the KHL so seems like a solid prospect, a bit older though).

Understand your perspective. My whole thing with the other guy is he’s acting like I’m offering pieces of scrap

He’s referencing you being hard headed and saying my offer doesn’t even constitute a counter. Clearly.

I'm referring to you're overarching argument that this is somehow a bad return. You're very off-base in that assessment
