Fabbro makes sense. Dont see why Ottawa would wasted an draft pick on a pending UFA when they aren’t a playoff team.

They have to push for it imo. There’s not much to sell anyways and they’re only 6pts out of a spot. Even if they don’t make it, gotta show Debrincat they were at least close and play some meaningful important late season games. The difference between picking 8th and 15th this year is really meh

No reason for them to push further in. They already jumped early this past offseason and are now pot committed. Might as well make the best of whats left and wait until the right time.

This makes no sense. They didn’t jump early . There were a few issues.

They traded Connor Brown assuming Formenton would be there on the 3rd line , ended up losing both.

They lost Norris pretty much the whole year.

They lost Zub for a combined like 2 months.

They played over a month with an AHL level 3rd line because of injuries to Motte, Norris and Joseph.

They had a bad November , other than that they’ve been really good.

Everyone knew they needed a top 4D since last summer and Dorion didn’t get one . They didn’t jump early but they didn’t get the top 4D they needed

Injuries effect every team and haven't hit Ottawa particularly hard in the grand scheme of things. If injuries didn't happen, Ottawa still wouldn't have been a playoff team. Now their young players are aging into the mid 20s, don't have all that much left in the cupboard as far as prospects go, don't have an NHL level defense or a starting goaltender .. oh and they will be bumping up against the cap. They jumped early and put themselves in a worse position going forward. When we look at Atlantic teams and their position going forward, Ottawa would rank 3rd behind Buffalo and Montreal, maybe 4th behind Detroit, and they are committed to the path now.

Dont really understand why OTT would give up picks for a UFA but sure, sold.

Can’t be another seller again and give up now. You gotta at least push and try to play some meaningful games . Only 6pts out also not impossible . They’re getting Zub back too

Stutzle just turned 21
Greig is 20
Sanderson is 20
Tkachuk is 23
Norris is 23
Batherson is 24
Pinto just turned 22
Debrincat is 25

A lot of these guys are in their first few years, they’re not “aging” come on man , another bad take.

And you think this team is bad?

They have 5 forwards on pace for 70+ pts , 2 guys on pace for 85+ pts , their 35 goal scorer from last year is injured, an offensive Dman on pace for 50+ pts , a 2 way rookie Dman that’s got elite potential.

I don’t know what you’re going on about.

I think they are aging into their mid 20s. Aging curves suggest that around 23 players hit their peak and continue to play around that point for a few years. You'll notice the big names on that list other than Stutzle have already reached that point. Their young players won't be getting all that much better compared to a Buffalo or Montreal. It's likely this team is who the Senators are and they weren't enough. It's also likely they won't be enough going forward as the better rebuilds jump over them.

Disagree but think whatever you want. They’re -32 in expected goals for this year. If only half those went their way, they’d be in a wild card spot. Other than a flop November , they’ve been playing really well. Special teams is top 10 in the league . Their best scorer is injured.

Idk what to tell you if you think this team peaked. They have 2 new players and chemistry takes time. And also the coaching system hasn’t been the best.

This team isn’t even whatsoever close to firing on all cylinders. The team that fired on all cylinders is the team that won 6-2 against the leafs. And that’s without Norris and Zub. I know you were missing Matthews but this team is likely gonna add a top 4D somehow. And all they need is a defensive responsible guy like a Roy or Demelo to pair with Sanderson or Chabot
