Ottawa says no. Although this looks like a realistic trade, Sanderson and Hamonic have been Ottawa's best-pairing defensemen this season. In any other universe, this would go through but Hamonic is playing some of the best hockey in his career alongside Sanderson, it would be surprising if Hamonic doesn't get extended for at least 1 year on the Sens as the 7th Dman.

I think you forgot the number of prospects the Sens have in Belleville that can come up next year and take his spot ( Jacob Bernard-Docker, Tyler Kleven, and Lassi Thomson are 3 good examples).

The Senators would absolutely do that, although the pick being 2024 makes no sense. It would likely be a protected 2023 pick, and only transfer to 2024 if the Senators falter.

It would likely have to be Zaitsev in the trade going to Chicago, not Watson. The Senators need to dump his salary if they are going to add a top 4. Although, there were rumblings that Zaitsev may have nixed a deal to Chicago in the off season.

Andersson and the offence he brings from the back end is too much to give up no matter how good a season Hamonic is having. He is two points off of Domi's production. I like Domi for the Flames despite being another smaller player, but Andersson can't be heading out!

Dude............no, no, no, no, no...........
If you get a chance to bring on a stud like Andersson, you do it. He'd automatically be the best dman on the team, at a stellar cap hit. That being said, CAL hangs up the phone on this deal.

I know Andersson is a great defenseman, but he isn't a good fit with Ottawa's cap situation. If they did this the sens would be cap-strapped. Pinto and ADB need deals, combined you're looking at about $12M+. That would leave them with ~$3M in cap space (assuming Motte, Talbot, Zaitsev, Holden, and Brannstrom all get moved or don't get extended between now and the offseason). It doesn't make sense to bring on more cap to fix a problem that could be resolved internally.

It's 4.5M a season for the next 3 years for a top tier 2 way Dman. Motte, Talbot, Zaitsev, Holden Brannstrom, Watson.......trade or don't resign them all. Don't sign anyone for your bottom 6 over 2.5

Sanderson - Andersson
Chabot - Zub
Hamonic (2Mil Max) - JBD

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Batherson
Grieg - Norris - Giroux

I honestly don't see Debrincat resigning unless they throw a boatload of $$ at him, and that's a bad idea.

Calgary says Andersson isn't going anywhere and we don't want Hamonic back either! If Bonehead Brad had any brains he'd ask Ottawa to make an offer on Tanev.
