Get Timo

Created by: dgibb10
Team: 2022-23 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 2, 2023
Published: Feb. 2, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not 100% sure which teams may be looking for a guy like severson, but a RHD who has been proven to be able to play top minutes, move the puck, and is pretty sound defensively should have significant value as a rental (devils could also retain in this case), especially considering ive been hearing his free agency market will be upwards of 5 mill AAV.
Devils get a winger for jack, keep holtz (although i would be willing to put him in for shakir if the severson return is lower), and can still run a very strong Dcore into the playoffs especially if Luke is ready and can replace smith in sheltered minutes + PP.

Tatar and Mercer as third line wingers gives the devils amazing depth and would put them in an incredible position to make a run at a cup while still having a great long term future.

If im off on any trade values let me know

Im my honest opinion I believe the package that gets this done is 1st/Shara/2 B prospects. I think shark fans feel it’s fair value. We don’t share the same evaluation as they do about Holtz, they see him as B level prospect. I use the same developmental progress of Timo Meier when he was 20/21 in the NHL to disagree with that connotation. If the ask is 1st/Holtz/Shara, we should be saying no.

100%

Holtz isn’t going to be traded.

At least just to preserve the slide. I hope he stays in AHL next year too.

If they dont value Holtz as an A prospect there is no chance I put him into any package. Not worth it

Yes absolutely. If we come back to planet earth and give him the proper evaluation as an “A”, we can begin to put together a package around him. If not, we’ll happily keep him.

Why does he deserve that rating though? Hes barely played and clearly isnt liked by the NJ coaching staff

By that same logic, Timo Meier wasn’t an “A prospect” his first two years in the NHL (37 points in 115 games which is .32 PPG). You wouldn’t have given him up for anything less than what you knew he was worth even when he was struggling. We all know Holtz is going to be a 70-80 point player down the road. He isn’t fully developed yet, you think we’re just gonna give him up, and a 1st, and Shara. Cmon man.

Timo wasnt very good. His value was certainly lower then, but we trusted the process and waited and didnt trade him for an elite forward.

That is a choice you have, but if you want to trade for a top guy, you will have to pay with guys like him.

Yes, but you need to be fair in the evaluation. I’m not saying I won’t give you Holtz, I’m simply saying all these 1st/Holtz/Shara proposals are non starters. If it’s Holtz + 1st you can’t ask for much more.

Thats a fair evaluation, but it really depends on the rest of the league.

Is Meier worth more than that? Of course he is, but it takes another team beating it to get it, which may or may not happen

Look, in hindsight. Most teams are not a match for a trade with SJ. Options are not plenty here. For the sake of a “bidding war argument here”. My maximum offer goes to 1st, Holtz, and Casey. If that’s not good enough for you guys, I hang up the phone and get whoever makes it to UFA. I know you need to get A LOT out of this trade. But anything more than that is unrealistic.

And thats an offer I could see happening. If that was the best offer, I would take it and not be super upset.

However, I still hope theres a better one out there because a Meier trade is 100% a loss for us.

I'm a Sharks fan and I value Holtz for the record. A level to me. I've been saying a 1st and Holtz for a while.

I've also been saying we'll retain 50% if you want us to take back a bad contract if you add a 2nd or B prospect.

And I’d be more than willing to negotiate with you at that price/mindset

Part of the issue is the Horvat trade did impact the market and we're only getting closer to the TDL when desperation increases.

I bet Grier is going to wait and get more offers. It might end up being more.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Couture and Meier gone.
