Whats next PT one TDL edition

Initial Creation Date: Feb. 3, 2023

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Vancouver Canucks are a mess right now so here is how to fix it.

1. Trade Brock Boeser either at the TDL as interest is reportedely heating up rapidly across the league. Personally I like the idea of shopping him next year with a chance his value goes up but for a deal like the one I did, I think they should at least consider it.

2. Two veteran defenders in Myers and Shenn have had interest from varying teams across the league. I think we trade them away now for some draft picks while their value is high ofc. A second seems steep for Myers but with a number of teams looking to improve their bluelines I think someone will pay that steep price for his services once his salary is retained.

3. Focus on developing guys that we drafted. If you look at teams who have won in recent years such as St. Louis, Colerado, or Tampa, you can see that a large portion of their rosters are players that they have drafted and developed. I think that is the key to winning. It is something that neither the Canucks or many other teams have been doing. Although drafting and supplying your own talent seems like a good way to go for this struggling team, it seems as though they may do the opposite. Ive heard rumours of Jack Rathbone being a potential trade chip for the Canucks which is one of the stupidest things they could do. he is a prime example of a player who was drafted a Canuck and is still young therefore should get an oppertunity to have NHL playing time.

4. Keeping Thatcher Demko. Rumor has it that Demko does not wan't to stay in Vancouver. Whether it is true or not this is a bad look on the Canucks. In their over 50 year history the Canucks have produced 5 quality goaltenders, Thatcher being one of them. They need to keep him as part of this core moving forward. A trade would give the Canucks some good assets but if you already have your self-drafted Franchise tendy on the team why would you get rid of him. Especially if they aren't commiting to a rebuild rather a retool.

5. Stop making stupid desperation trades. The OEL trade is a prime example of a desperate trade that ruined the future years of an organization. If the Canucks would have waited out those contracts and not made that deal they would have had enough money to resign Horvat and have Dylan Guenther on their team for christ sake. They also would not have a 7 million dollar contract that is nearly untradeable for the NEXT FIVE YEARS. They need to make trades that will help with both the future and present.

6. Give Bruce Boudreau a proper apology. Im not even going to attempt to explain all the drama that has went on with Bruce this year so Im just going to say the next best thing to do besides giving him his job back would be reaching out with both a public and private apology to him and his family.

Despite all the bad decisions and drama the canucks have a very bright future ahead and they should work with that. Unless my ideas were terrible (pls let me know if they are) I will make a long-term (next 2-3 years) outlook on these trades and more moves the Canucks could and should make.

Probably not but would make sense money wise for Detroit to send him the other way plus the only way I see the nucks getting more than a third as of before the deadline.

Switch Detroit's 2nd to a 3rd and we accept, Boeser should at least be able to perform the same as Bertuzzi.

I don't agree with this Vancouver add nearly 3m in salary. Too much salary going the wrong way. If we are retaining I'd say Zadina plus a pick (depending on how much we retained) no retention I'd think that would be a better offer (only adding about 400k in salary). Offensively Boeser will bring more then Bertuzzi not sure how good defensively or physical Bertuzzi is so can't comment on that part. Considering this year is Boeser off year and his on pace for 54 points which would be Bertuzzi's 2nd best season.

I would accept as Detroit, however I would try and push for a 2024 2nd instead.

His numbers prove otherwise & I’ll take a serviceable AHL Guy over a 6’6 Pylon making 3 mil, we already have a 6’4 pylon on Holl don’t need another

Actually, Holl has been more serviceable than Myers (played as the number 2 for a while) on a cheaper contract.

I know but it speaks volumes cause he would be the only guy Myers would have any chance of replacing

Agreed and even they aren't close, Holl is so much better at such a lower cap hit
