MTL would take this but you will need to pay to get rid of Kapanen contract

I don't know if I would take this, Poulin has been rather uninspiring in the AHL so far. He is intriguing but would be more of a throw in at this point than a major component to the deal. I think if it were a 1st and Poulin it would be a yes but a 2nd and Poulin isn't going to do it for me (unless there is a condition to bump it to a 1st if the Pens make the 2nd round and Monahan plays 50% of the games)

Monahan is an upgrade, think he's a great player, but that's still a brutal 3rd line. It would take 4-5 moves I think to come close to fixing this roster

Monahan isn't worth near that ...

I hope Poulin gets through whatever he is going through right now.
If going back home to MTL will help him out, I am all for it.

I'm not sure about the Kapanen thing. His production has been good, he just isnt consistent with it. Needs a change of scenery

Monahan's been a good player this season, but not 1st+ at the deadline good. Solid scoring pace, but the defense isn't anything to call home about, which is something I'd rather have out of a 3C. The injury definitely doesn't help your case. Trade deadline is in a month and Monahan hasn't played in 2. When he returns, how well will he do? Can any GM looking for a center trust him to be healthy when it matters?

And Poulin hasn't had much of an opportunity to prove himself this year. He's missed a lot of time for personal reasons, but also made his NHL debut. It's hard to place where he is right now. And last season, he did struggle. For the first half of the year. The switch to from wing to center did him very well and the back half of his rookie year in the AHL was much better. He probably is hard to gauge the value of, and it's probably lower than I and most Pens fans would want to say it is, but I can't confidently call him a throw-in.

I agree with you on Monahan but we can't just let him go for a 2nd and a struggling prospect either, that is why I said I would be fine with the deal if it had the condition of upgrading to a 1st if the Pens make the 2nd round and Monahan played 50% of the games.

I guess I was a little harsh on Poulin, I just meant he isn't the center piece of a deal right now and because of that the center piece has to be the pick and for the pick to be the center piece it has to be a first or have a good chance at becoming a 1st.

I think a 2nd and a struggling prospect is his current value tbh
I'd say Poulin is a struggling prospect but he's just 21, not like he's 24-25 and already at his peak of development (hence the 3rd)
