They open a whole 250k cap space and give up a coveted Rd Prospect for a rental hideous for TB

And get Cap space for the next season as well. You guys traded a 1st for David Savard, don't you remember that?

Detroit passes, Myers is pure garbage.

Sundqvist is easily worth a 3rd round pick. Perhaps something around Sunny for Cal Foote as both roughly have the same value

I read it, And Cal Foote is a 6.6" RHD that Yzerman drafted. And i'd rather have him over the other two.

Is Sundqvist this massive upgrade over Namestnikov? no. had we been developing that first round pick?no. Did we have no depth at Rd at the time due to injuries? Yes. This is a panic move if anything. The "Cap savings" is miniscule. Myers is buried for 250k next year. Btw what has been TBs biggest weakness the last decade? RD is give up a guy you expect to be ready after next year for a guy who would be a luxury good asset management? NO!!

Yeah 6'4" he'd still be a solid addition to the bottom pairing, Yzerman wants a huge blueline.

Maybe not the smartest move long term, but contenders do these kind of trades. Maybe Tampa can sign Sundqvist to a team friendly deal like they did with Nick Paul. Tampa has five top 6 guys signed for the next season, Colton-Paul-Sunny could be a good 3rd line going forward.

Sunny is better than Namestnikov. He is also right handed (Tampa doesn't have many of them).

And they've been to 3 straight Cups with 3 or less RHS fowards again Luxury not a thing they overpay futures for.

Is he better than Namestnikov ? Yes. Is he enough better to give up a future top 4 Rd Prospect? No.

Yeah, if Sundqvist is an interesting option fornthe.bottom 6. He's certainly better than Names, and if it cost Tampa Myers and Schmidt, so be it. Schmidt is still at least 2 years away more than likely from seeing any ice time in Tampa, as both Perbix and Thompson are ahead of him. While 250k doesn't sound like much, for a team like Tampa that will need every dollar next year, it isn't entirely irrelevant. Foote as the main piece is also possible, but if that's the case then Tampa would need to make at least one additional move first to clear Namestnikov and/or Myers.

Continually giving up Futures like Schmidt over and over will have this team like Chicago or Detroit in a few years and is absolutely moronic.

It's a decent trade, as teams in their main contention window move certain futures all the time. The only reason they may not do it isn't because of Schmidt, who *might* do anything at the NHL level in 2025(at least with Tampa probably), but the fact that Sundqvist would likely be just a rental. I don't believe Tampa would be able to extend him, so rather than go for him, Tampa may look for a similar type player that is still under contract through at least next season.

That's actually debatable his corsi and corsi relative to teammates is better for Vladdy as is his expected goal differential and expected goal differential relative to teammates. Vladdy having better teammates makes this FACT more impressive. Vladdy is 30 Sundqvist turns 29 next month virtual wash. This is really bad asset management. Vladdy also has more ppg this season and career wise. So, thank you but this isn't good for TB. Sure though JBB should just go do this so he can say he did "something"🙄.

It's also hilarious that someone would defend Names over Sundqvist. Names is considerably behind on ppg this season(all that Tampa should really care about in this kind of move, extra seasons are desirable but ultimately, a bonus), is stronger physically where as Names gets ragdolled in any confrontation, leading to multiple turnovers and weak possessions, and is still solid defensively. There may be a better player, but trying to argue Names is better is the best joke of the day on here....so far.
