Would this lineup be a contender

Created by: NHLfan10506
Team: 2022-23 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 4, 2023
Published: Feb. 4, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Sounds like Meier and Boeser are the two names most discussed for NJD deadline moves. Although I expect a rather tame deadline, hard to ignore the rumors saying otherwise. So I just wanted to see what adding both would look like.

Contender or no?

Meier ideally is the winger to add but his next contract will be pricey. Getting Boeser saves a ton of cap but it’s banking on his scoring goals rebounding. He’s on a 60pt pace but it’s goals he’s paid for. Wouldn’t take much for him to find his touch especially with a change of scenery. Meier feels more of a certainty but again the cost is higher & on assets out also.

I am a believer in Boeser and think he fits our needs.

I am to & agree he’d fit in. He’s a quiet guy that needs less limelight. He’d fit in with what’s going in Devils land. Many ppl are down on him but he could be a sneaky get. 30 goals is not outta the question in a full season . Canucks need cap space & too many wingers.

i think so, at least they would be fun as hell to watch. I would push to swap Gritsyuk for Stillman just since it seems like VAN has committed to being a destination for Russians. Also, not sure McCarthy would sign?

I just don't really see the point in paying that much to get Boeser in.
He really isn't playing well this year and is unlikely to be good value at even 4.65m.
Maybe if the Canucks retained all the way to 50% he could be interesting, but even then I'd just rather have Mercer in the top 6 over him.

I get that you may not be aware of who Gritsyuk really is but moving him for Boeser is completely out of the question.
By the start of the 23/24 season, and if Gritsyuk is in NA by then, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he were an outright better player than Boeser at that point in time, if he isn't already.

The Canucks brass has stated several times they want 26 and younger players that can help us this year or next , cap space and Defense. Not sure there is a fit here.IMHO.

I seriously doubt whether the Canucks can get any of that in return for Boeser, even less so without retaining 50%.
If the Canucks can get as much as a 3rd + 4th (Björkstrand return) to get under Boeser's contract, they should seize that opportunity.

Gritsyuk and Stillman are very different pieces though (the former is far more valuable). I think McCarthy is a risk for NJD since RD looks a little jammed up and he can be a free agent in August. He probably signs if there is pathway to NHL for him.

With Tatar, Wood, Severson, Graves, maybe Blackwood coming off the books…we should have space. Assuming Meier extends at reasonable price.

i am aware of him thats why i said VAN should push for him. And like you said, IF hes comes to NA which is always the problem with Russians players.

Your opinion. We will just keep him then.We are Not giving our players away.We hold the cards on a boesser trade. We dont have to trade him at all.

So why do you think Gritsyuk would be going back to the Canucks in a Boeser trade, let alone to be added on top of a 2nd + McCarthy?
The Canucks would be short of value to the tune of a 1st rd pick to make that fair...

maybe fair enough with the rest of the package but what would the rights to Gritsyuk for a team trading a pick for him be if there was a question of him coming over or no? Not being snarky asking your opinion?

All the guys you mentioned there total up to about $17m, while Meier and Boeser would be around $12m. Going to have to rely on ELCs.

Devils advocate pun intended…

Boeser is still on a 60pt pace & not on PP1. Now that Bo is gone expect him back on it. It’s one thing to pick on a single season that isn’t over. It’s getting stale. You cannot honestly believe he has nothing more to give? Also given the coach carousel & constant line blender most wingers are not doing well other than Kuzmenko. Change of scenery can only help. On his 6.65m cap hit there is some merit in that the flat cap has made it a league wide issue to move many players. It deflates value across the board.

Can be done with Bratt, Meier at $8.5m and Graves at $4.5m

McCarthy and Stillman for Boeser
2nd rounder for $4m+ retention over 2+ years.

McCarthy may become NCAA free agent in August but would probably sign in VAN.
Stillman has been decent since Othmann arrived, but is not a franchise-changer.

Its not a huge package.

Slide the 2nd to next yr then. No picks in first 3rd of a pretty deep pool is tough
