Making The Best Of Our Situation

Created by: la_scaloneta
Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 5, 2023
Published: Feb. 5, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I find is shameful that Geno, Letang, Rust & Rakell took huge discounts yet the GM wasted the remaining cap on trash Petry, Dumoulin, Kapanen, Ruutta and McGinn.

Let’s bring Jason Botterill and take advantage of the remaining senile GMs remaining in the league.

While I’m not necessarily acquiring younger talent, the guys would certainly fit the system better than we currently have.
Trades
1.
PIT
  1. Nugent-Hopkins, Ryan
Additional Details:
*RNH is primarily a PP merchant on EDM
EDM
  1. Carter, Jeff
  2. Dumoulin, Brian
Additional Details:
*Oilers need help on defence and depth scoring. Although both players are washed up, they are the type of guys whom Ken Holland values.
2.
BOS
  1. Kapanen, Kasperi
Additional Details:
*Similar type of player in terms of attributes to DeBrusk and Zacha, whom BOS have had success with recently. They take on a younger player to expand their window and keep Pasta.
3.
NYR
  1. Zucker, Jason
Additional Details:
*Zucker is having an awesome season but on an expiring deal, at 31, it’s not worth bringing back for a team looking to get younger. However he’d be the perfect fit for Panarin, kinda like Hunt & Blackwell as a puck retriever but also got the high end skill as well.
4.
NSH
  1. McGinn, Brock
  2. Rutta, Jan
Additional Details:
Nashville needs depth forward and some experienced D
5.
VAN
  1. Blueger, Teddy
  2. Petry, Jeff
Additional Details:
*Seems like a Jim Benning type move, VAN sees themselves as a bubble team that could probably reach the next level with better depth scoring and proven defence. Petry is still good despite age.

I’m not convinced by him. Big deal for Goodrow, Blais trade, naming Trouba captain. He’s built a fringe contender that needs assets to win now.

Yes but none of the other GMs are particularly good, IMO.

GM's rarely deal in division, and never for a player who's young and under team control for several years.
The rangers don't even pick up the phone from the penguins for laf let alone a player who's a pending UFA at 31.

Yes but NYR needs a winger for Panarin and Zucker would be perfect!

I feel Hal isn’t playing to his full potential in BOS, and he’s a waste of cap space on the third line.

The Goodrow one went along with Reaves which came down from the top. Those were reactions to Tom Wilson's actions in the playoffs. The Buch trade was them not being convinced he was worth his salary (which was widely panned to begin with). The Trouba part seemed to have to do with him wanting to be in NYR and playing well just before it. As a Devil fan, I don't think I have a reason to be biased for Drury, it's just a matter that he hasn't sold a lot of assets for his big move. He was pretty responsible last deadline.

Your feelings are wrong. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Remove that outlier season in NJ and he has averaged .76 ppg in his career. Averaging .72 as a Bruin.

Beauty of having a deep team. Most likely will be paired with Zacha/Pasta next year.

Rangers counter with vesey at 50% for Crosby and ty Smith
Penguins need someone whos solid defensively, and should want crosby to get another shot at a cup. Vesey being locked in for another 2 years at a really great cap hit should make him a perfect fit on the penguins.

Tbf MoRon Hextall would probably accept the proposal you gave. But Drury would also accept mine.

Still I think you can do better than paying 6 million for a 60 point player. And you need younger players, not an old guy.

I just don’t see what his or GG’s vision is, like they’re not a true contender and don’t clear have a clear direction. They have all these high pedigree talents like Chytil, Kakko, Laf, Kravstov, Schneider & Jones but compliment them with low-pedigree and simple-minded players like Vesey, Carpenter, Rooney, Reaves, Tinordi, Harpur, Nemeth. And as a result it doesn’t really work cuz the tendencies don’t match. So really they’re just reliant on the big 5 like TOR.

And you are still wrong.

1m for every 10 points is about the general rate for a FW.

Teams need a balance of vets and youth. And Boston is going to have plenty of young guys on the roster next year. It will be necessary due to cap.
