Making The Best Of Our Situation

Created by: la_scaloneta
Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 5, 2023
Published: Feb. 5, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I find is shameful that Geno, Letang, Rust & Rakell took huge discounts yet the GM wasted the remaining cap on trash Petry, Dumoulin, Kapanen, Ruutta and McGinn.

Let’s bring Jason Botterill and take advantage of the remaining senile GMs remaining in the league.

While I’m not necessarily acquiring younger talent, the guys would certainly fit the system better than we currently have.
Trades
1.
PIT
  1. Nugent-Hopkins, Ryan
Additional Details:
*RNH is primarily a PP merchant on EDM
EDM
  1. Carter, Jeff
  2. Dumoulin, Brian
Additional Details:
*Oilers need help on defence and depth scoring. Although both players are washed up, they are the type of guys whom Ken Holland values.
2.
BOS
  1. Kapanen, Kasperi
Additional Details:
*Similar type of player in terms of attributes to DeBrusk and Zacha, whom BOS have had success with recently. They take on a younger player to expand their window and keep Pasta.
3.
NYR
  1. Zucker, Jason
Additional Details:
*Zucker is having an awesome season but on an expiring deal, at 31, it’s not worth bringing back for a team looking to get younger. However he’d be the perfect fit for Panarin, kinda like Hunt & Blackwell as a puck retriever but also got the high end skill as well.
4.
NSH
  1. McGinn, Brock
  2. Rutta, Jan
Additional Details:
Nashville needs depth forward and some experienced D
5.
VAN
  1. Blueger, Teddy
  2. Petry, Jeff
Additional Details:
*Seems like a Jim Benning type move, VAN sees themselves as a bubble team that could probably reach the next level with better depth scoring and proven defence. Petry is still good despite age.

I just don’t see what his or GG’s vision is, like they’re not a true contender and don’t clear have a clear direction. They have all these high pedigree talents like Chytil, Kakko, Laf, Kravstov, Schneider & Jones but compliment them with low-pedigree and simple-minded players like Vesey, Carpenter, Rooney, Reaves, Tinordi, Harpur, Nemeth. And as a result it doesn’t really work cuz the tendencies don’t match. So really they’re just reliant on the big 5 like TOR.

Kakko is fine, his tires are just pumped so hard by fans and certain media (See Jeff Marek) and Chytil is good. Schneider is fine as a 3RHD, but is being pushed up when Trouba plays down. As far as Laf....his flashes are just that. If he's not scoring, he's not really doing much, and he doesn't score much. I've never been impressed by Kravtsov. Rangers are running out of prospects that have any level of impact ahead of them. Othmann might be it.

All that said, GG has a season left....it's his MO.

I do feel the game is moving away from Lafreniere cuz he doesn’t really have the explosiveness to consistently be a menace on the forecheck or transition, he most thrives off making quick touches on the zone entry and cycle, and on the forecheck he is most successful as F3 where he can come away with the puck and play it to the pinching D. But that heavily requires for his linemates to be equally capable in terms of reading plays & battling physically, which cannot be achieved playing alongside Goodrow or Vesey cuz they don’t have the vision or puck control.

So overall, Laf is a very limited player but still, I felt if GG was open to developing high-pedigree guys, we would see better output, cuz he insists on complimenting them with these grinder types when lots of high-end talent has been available for low cost these past few seasons like Milano, Tolvanen, Rodrigues, Domi, Strome that can read the game at a similar level at a similar level. Sometimes breaking out is a matter of opportunity, I don’t think that’s been fulfilled in NYR.

Yes but NYR needs a winger for Panarin and Zucker would be perfect!

I don't think Lafreniere has that much value at this point, tbh.

Tbf MoRon Hextall would probably accept the proposal you gave. But Drury would also accept mine.

Drury's only bad trade is buch so far.
