The Leafs have nothing but cap space when Matthews and Nylanders new deals start, by design. Also that trade isn’t even a conversation starter value wise for marner.

Yes but they will also need to give Sandin, Liljegren new deals. The extension for Bunting this year too and you won't have as much as you think.

Just because their your team's top prospects doesn't make them good. The Pens pool is terrible, them crowning it means next to nothing. Would you take Kokkonen and Hirvonen for Guentzel? Didn't think so

Our prospects are mainly not good because Sullivan won't play them over vets. He is trying to protect Hextall's bad moves but the ones I gave you are very good.

U do realize Leafs will have the cap space to sign both right its not like Matthews and Nylander will be making 10mill more than they currently are facepalm

Have you looked at their page though? They have very few players signed that year. 3 forwards total right now. Every move they make from now till then will be with Matthews, Marner and Nylander deals in mind. The Tavares deal coming off the books the same year as marners will cover all 3. If they end up needing to move Marner to make room for those extensions then they completely screwed up lol.

Yes, but they will also need to resign Sandin + Liljegren to 4-5 million each, Bunting to 5M, add a 3C, Brodie replacement and give Nylander 11-12 million, Matthews 15-16. It's too risky.

Yeah but you will also need to find replacement for Brodie, Murray/Samsonov, add a legit 3C so those pieces will cost maybe 15-20 million in total. Add 34+88 getting around 30 million, JT's 11, Rielly's 7.5, Sandin-Liljegren extensions, that's around 75 million dollars in cap space taken up already.

They still got cap space to do it. Basically by the time all 4 are up cap will be around 88mill-90mill factor all the expiring guys coming before we got enough space

Unless they are both on a Conor Bedard level of good, the Leafs pass. Mitch Marner is one of the leagues best wingers and is crucial to the Leafs success, more than Nylander. We would not move him to extend Nylander

IDK, most TOR fans on Twitter have emphasized that Nylander is the best player on TOR this season.

Nylander wont be 11-12 million.... if the choice is between keeping Marner or keeping Nylander, its a pretty easy decision in keeping Marner

If the Leafs lose in round 1, and if Matthews doesn't agree to an extension in the summer/depending what the new GM wants to do, they will both be out there..but it's going to be for a trade that lets them stay competitive and they gain assets. Toronto would need a significant piece, another good roster player back + assets. I have drafts saved of what that looks like but I don't post because people on here are always crappy. I tried to make a PIT trade work, but I just don't think they line up from that perspective or it would be a move the Pens wouldn't want to do or a Pens player with a NMC/NTC wouldn't want to do. I love the creativity behind it, but I just don't know how PIT and TOR could agree to a Marner deal.

In terms of Murray, the Leafs would benefit more from buying him out than paying someone to take him on or getting less value back in a trade.

Marner may demand 12-13 million as opposed to Nylander’s 11-12, so it’s a tough call though I’d try to keep both. But I assume GMKD is definitely a bigger fan of Willy.

Nashville has proven D. That’s why Poile got stanley cup winning McDonagh in the off-season.

If we’re moving Fabbro, it’s to get draft picks/younger assets in return. We don’t need to get older.

If Marner only demanded 500k more than he makes right now id be Very happy. Its really not a tough call at all who youd rather have.

I really dont think Dubas has a preference of one over the other. Fact is Marner is a much better player, not up for debate.

Not to mention, Toronto is in win now mode, those pieces you traded for Marner are not at all what Toronto is looking for. Quite frankly Pittsburgh doesnt have a single player (outside of Crosby) that Toronto would have any sort of interest in moving Marner for

I’m not going to pretend to know what the Leafs will do, especially long term. But I’d assume Murray’s deal will be moved and Sammy will be extended with Woll backing up. Brodie may resign on a cheaper final deal, so most of his 5m goes to Lilly or Sandin extensions. That’s if they don’t move one of them. Again if you lose a star because you spent too much on a 3C then that’s a screw up on management. JTs deal is off the books the same year marners new on kicks in. They’ll figure it out, they won’t be moving stars because of the cap. Now if they lose in the first round and make a change at Gm, that’s a different story.
