You're not getting Rico with retention for pieces you don't want to hold onto and a third.

It'll take a 1st round pick or a 2nd and a blue chip prospect.

That offer doesn't get Henrique with retention. Blackwood is a cap dump we don't want. Bahl is an interesting guy, but the deepest part of the Ducks prospect pool is LHD so ultimately not that appealing. Clarke is pretty much just a throw in. The pick isn't good enough. It all comes together as a bunch of quantity but no real quality.

Keep in mind that the Ducks are more than willing to keep Henrique. You are needing to make the kind of offer that we can't say no to that contains some combination of high picks or quality prospects.

Henrique is great, but he isn’t the kind of guy a blue chip prospect is moved for. I don’t think this offer here would be enough either, but blue chip prospects just aren’t moved like that

If we can't get a first or a 2023 second plus a good prospect for Adam Henrique with 50% retention, then we might as well just hang onto him for another season. After all, he leads our team in goal scoring and is our best and most reliable faceoff man, in addition to being a key penalty killer, and has another year left on his contract. None of those players interests us: as my learned friend @CHAR points out, we don't need a LhD prospect, Blackwood is redundant with Gibson and Dostal on our roster, and Clarke just doesn't look like an NHL impact player.

Sure, by himself he isn't. With 1.5 seasons of retaining basically 50% of his salary, we won't trade him for anything less. If we can't get that, we will just keep him. he is still under contract and doing just fine here in Anaheim. If you want him cheaper, come back next season when he is a rental.

With retention he isn’t worth a blue chip prospect wither. That’s just not a realistic ask

We're perfectly content to hold onto him until next season when he is a pending UFA. Any offer to get Henrique with retention this season has to be of the "We can't say no" variety, not "market value". We need a reason to say yes to retaining on him for 1.5 seasons, which means a 1st, or a pick and a prospect that is good enough to be at or near the top of our prospect system, which is still one of the strongest in the NHL.

Otherwise, call back next year we he's a rental, we'll be much more reasonable on the ask when we don't have all the leverage in the negotiation.

Which one of those pieces is supposed to be enticing enough for the Blues to move Tarasenko?

a pick most likely after #50? Walsh is mildly intriguing, but he's probably never going to be anything more than a waiver fodder d man. The other two certainly aren't intriguing at all.

I understand the want, but there’s no precedent for it
