These move make absolutely no sense for the Canes. Don’t need Shattenkirk, especially with how good Chatfield has been. Vrana has been terrible this season, doubt he would improve with a change of scenery. And paying 2 5ths, which is a relatively small price, just to put 2 bodies in the press box is just stupid.

I think Vrána would be perfect with the Canes and teams are always adding depth at the TDL - for a team like Carolina projected to go far, it’s wise…

I doubt Carolina wants to deal with Vrana.

Vrana had a personal issue and had to leave hockey completely for over 2 months, how is that "he's been terrible"? Show some class...

On top of that, he has 8 points in the last 7 games in GR, 6 of which are goals and is starting to look like he's having fun and feeling confident again and will very likely be back with Detroit before the season is over. Detroit isn't giving him away, we'll ride it out in hopes that he continues on this very positive path he's on and returns to that lethal goal scorer he was before all this.

I do apologize, but it seems I mixed up the Vrana and Bertuzzi situations at the time I made that comment.

Now as for Vrana, I still can’t see the Canes showing any interest, just given the fact they could have had him for free a little while ago when he was on waivers, but also because of his issues staying in the lineup the past couple of years. Any move for Vrana would be made in the off season, likely with salary retention, considering he has the lowest value in his career. The Canes can’t exactly afford to pay to acquire a guy, just for him to not end up playing much, much like what happened with Patches.

I don't mean to be snide, really, but aren't we supposed to making acquisitions that make us better? How do these moves improve a team's chance at a cup? Especially considering the packages are somewhat bargin-bin level? Any serious contender would be shooting much higher than this. This is not wise at all. This seems odd. I almost miss the Horvat rumors. Just kidding on that last one. Really.

I don't blame any team for not wanting to risk his 5m+ caphit being dead money, but at the same time, don't discount his obvious ceiling. There is just zero reason for Detroit to "dump" him, so the risk-reward balance for Detroit to ride it out far outweighs the cap when we have the space in the short term.
