to be fair most people don’t dead the description!
but your offer isn’t far off.
Petersen at this point is a full on bad cap dump, and still owed roughly 12.5 mil (5 mil next season 6 mil the final season plus roughly 1.5 left this year)
If Monahan got a 1st to move his deal a 1st and prospect to move more than double the cap for a worse player seems reasonable, especially when you get a solid backup in return.

does get you guys out of a bad cap hit. 12.5 mil savings over the next 2.5 years. Monahan got montreal a 1st for moving him this isn’t ridiculous

The Kings will not give up any significant assets to move Cal Petersen. They'll just bury him in the AHL and buy him out next summer.

I can read just fine. However, you felt compelled to post your dumb trade anyway, so I felt compelled to tell you it was dumb.

Way too much from Winnipeg for a rental, no chance they consider that.

if you could read you would see the description says not realistic. That means that it has no chance of happening in reality. Reality is the real world. This is a website (ie not reality).

Who is Masiak?

Thats a little steep for me from a Jets perspective, its probably what it takes but would try to swap out some pieces like Lambert instead of McGroarty.

I just don't see any chance of Meier signing with the Jets so wouldn't even bother with him and trading his RFA rights likely doesn't get them what they would've gave up to acquire him from SJ.

I dont think it would be a rental unless PLD wants to stay in Winnipeg long term? If they did trade meier and sign him to QO at 10 mil (he would likely sign for less) the jets would have 8mil in cap space for bottom six + backup goalie which would definitely be tight for sure

with you guys up against the cap freeing up 5 mill in space the next 2 seasons is more valuable than 4 years of dead cap. but if you guys can do it then great for you.

Masiak is a beat writer for the athletic, for this article he collaborated with the jets beat writer, so this was just an exercise seeing what potential meier jets fit would look like. Lambert was brought up in the article but its not clear how much the sharks value a guy like him after passing up on him at the draft

But it's not freeing up $5M in space over the next 2 seasons. It would be a $3.85M cap hit next season (buried in the AHL), followed by a $1M buyout cap hit in 2024-25 and $2M buyout cap hit in 2025-26. That amount of relief is not worth a 1st round pick and the Kings 2nd best defensive prospect.

*Masisak op spelled it wrong. Used to be the Devil's and Caps writer for the Athletic.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's even a slight chance Meier signs long term in Winnipeg. Plus as you mentioned the Jets really need to save dollars to sign PLD and then Helly and Scheifele the following year plus with any luck get a good top 4 RHD. They just don't have the cap space for a high dollar winger.

I could see them trading Peterson, especially since they are entering their window, im just not sure the sharks are the right team to do it with since we are division rival and what not.

I'm sure the Kings would send Petersen back in a swap for a long-term goaltending replacement. Demko makes the most sense. They're not going to do it in a trade for a rental unless the entire package costs a 2nd at most.

I am not disagreeing with you, I said that in the description...
buying out Peterson comes with a 5 mil cap hit followed by 100,000, followed by 2 years at 1.6 million according to the buy out calculator. so you'd really do it to get 4 million in space to add this year + next year you'd save the 5 to buy him out.. after that you can probably manage. Is 9mil cap dump worth spence + first

oh to be an illiterate kings fan. life would be simple and blissful. Point of this discussion was to talk about the Winnipeg trade but alas, I have incurred the wrath of all of the kings fans who could have just chosen not to comment, but instead need to make a point about an unrealistic trade to someone who *checks notes* called the trade unrealistic.
