I am not disagreeing with you, I said that in the description...
buying out Peterson comes with a 5 mil cap hit followed by 100,000, followed by 2 years at 1.6 million according to the buy out calculator. so you'd really do it to get 4 million in space to add this year + next year you'd save the 5 to buy him out.. after that you can probably manage. Is 9mil cap dump worth spence + first

ah just saw your post about the burying him next year as well so it would be saving 3.86 +1.6+2.1 =7.5 ish

Unfortunately, I don't think there's even a slight chance Meier signs long term in Winnipeg. Plus as you mentioned the Jets really need to save dollars to sign PLD and then Helly and Scheifele the following year plus with any luck get a good top 4 RHD. They just don't have the cap space for a high dollar winger.

Yeah I just don't see Meier signing in Winnipeg, hope Chevy focuses on a guy with some term or some lower cost additions then adding a guy who while a great player is likely just a rental.

Also don't see their defense as its presently built being anywhere remotely close to a defense that could win a cup, if good assets like 1sts/A-prospects are gonna be traded it should probably be for a dman even if they have too much cap tied up on the blueline.

Right. Ideally the Jets would be able to find a top 4 RHD and a top 9 forward. I think we'd both agree that isn't likely, but a younger, top 4 defenseman with some team control left would definitely be worth moving the 1st and/or top assets for. Then as you said they'd just need to balance the salaries in the off season to bring the defense cost down a bit.

I would do this trade in a heartbeat for WPG if there was some kind of extension negotiated with Meier. Hell, I'd even take a 3 to 4 year deal. Unfortunately, I don't see Meier extending and a $10M QO for another year is just nuts. I actually have this identical trade in my draft, but it's for my eyes only when I feel like fantasizing smile

the jets would definitely have an idea of whether or not meier would extend before the deal was made

oh to be an illiterate kings fan. life would be simple and blissful. Point of this discussion was to talk about the Winnipeg trade but alas, I have incurred the wrath of all of the kings fans who could have just chosen not to comment, but instead need to make a point about an unrealistic trade to someone who *checks notes* called the trade unrealistic.

Posters like you say things like “unrealistic “ because you know the post is going to get **** on.

Hence why you’re getting **** on. Period.

Way too much from Winnipeg for a rental, no chance they consider that.

Agree with you, @Windjammer... these are two (2) assets (McGroarty & Samberg) that should remain with Jets.. there are other assets that can be used in trade discussions.

My point is just don’t do it when you know it’s crap.

In the back of your mind you thought some LA fan would agree with you. That’s why posters have to add unrealistic (even though I hope it is).

Have a good day
