How was Blais traded for Buchnevich and Tarasenko? Great deal for the Rangers, STL really screwed this up

Blues are retooling as opposed to rebuilding so giving up a UFA for this is good (as well as opens up a lot of cap space for the deadline), Rangers get a top 6 winger and a serviceable Dman while not sacrificing the future too much.

Seems like a fair deal to me

This is a fair deal. NYR fills their spots of need at RW and LD, STL gets some solid futures.

was hoping for more but not terrible. Tarasenko was not going to re-sign and we are not making the playoffs. Good luck in NYR Tarasenko you will be missed

Felt like Taresenko to the Rangers was inevitable, an entire year of rumors came to fruition and I'm stoked about it. Rangers have so much offensive talent, I hope they dont choke this year.

Taresenko having a full NTC clearly at play here. Probably not many options for Doug Armstrong to make, got the best deal he could, otherwise he walks for nothing.

Held onto him a year too long

NYR is all in. That 1st is going to be very low. Same value as a high 2nd.

Good luck to Carolina and NJ to make it to the conference's final.

The Rangers got:

A 2nd that had some chance of turning into a 1st

A 3rd that had very little chance of turning into a 1st.

for Mats Zuccarello

The Blues got:

Sammy Blais

A prospect

A guaranteed 1st round pick in a deep draft

A 4th round pick with a very good chance of turning into a 3rd round pick

for Vladimir Tarasenko and Niko Mikkola

Blais and Mikkola cancel each other out.

So, it's a prospect, a guaranteed 1st and likely a 3rd for Tarasenko.

The more I look at these two trades, the more I feel this isn't fair for the Rangers.

The St. Louis Blues win the trade.

Unfortunately for them they have a long term mess on the blueline

from the pens perspective this is absolutely horrible, we've now missed out on horvat and tarasenko and they both went to teams we are competing with to get into the playoffs, and teams that we'll probably play if we get there. I'm not happy about this at all. Hopefully we can get schenn, or the gavrikov/korpi double whammy. Either way the teams in our division are getting better and we haven't done anything yet.

As far as trades go I've been saying this for awhile, the GM for the Blues, Armstrong, is a scrub. Straight up bad deal for the Blues. How was Mikkola included in this? Looking back they should have just kept Petro, passed on Krug, and given Binnington a bridge deal instead of a massive long term deal.

RW and LD are the spots Rangers needed upgrades in, and I think they paid a pretty fair price to (most likely) rent what they needed. And they still get to keep one of their 2 1sts this summer and (once Hajek is off the roster) have enough cap left for a small bottom 6 add if they want at the deadline.

Fair deal.
