With Smith Reinbacher and Hrabal

Team: 2024-25 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 9, 2023

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is a realistic draft scenario in my opinion. It addresses organization weaknesses and this team will only need time to become a competitive team.

Ngl habs might just end up in a top 4 spot due to their harder schedule. so maybe one of michkov, carlsson or benson might also be in there instead of smith.
As for Reinbacher, depends on where the panthers pick end up. if in top 16 def dont reach for a dman, take bpa
Def ok w Hrabal.

Three entirely reasonable draft selections. You might look at Sandin Pellikka, too.

With Slafkovsky, Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, Beck, Mesar, Farrell and the forward you pick early in the bank, I think that a RhD is called for with the Florida pick, and the earlier it is, the better defender you're likely to get. The defender you choose might be the first defenseman selected.

Personally I would take ASP over Reinbacher but that is just me.

bad contract for caufield
Every other forward in the 2019 draft has been signed for 8 Mill or less, if caufield gets 500k more than jack Hughes, its bad

u draft bpa cuz it can be a trade chip into acquiring a need.
like lets say the florida pick ends up in the 11-13 range, take the bpa, could be a 1st liner instead of reaching on what could be a 2nd pair dman most likely.
u then trade said 1st liner and whatever the team needs for a number 1 RD. dmen takes longer to develop so theres that too.

I think I'll stick with the approach I've developed over the more than 40 years of experience I've had in the matter. There are too many "could's" in your advice, and I don't understand the two-step process of drafting a trade chip to acquire a need when you could just address the need directly. And the fact that defensemen take longer to develop is, in my experience, exactly why you want to draft exceptional ones earlier than later.

big difference between picking 26 overall and 12 overall, 26 overall may have 2nd liners and prob 2nd pair dmen, 12 overall most likely will have 1st liners in it, the only dman ranked in top 16 is gulyayev, then its asp and reinbacher in mid 20s w Dragicevic.

What does 26th overall have to do with anything? No one mentioned it prior to your last comment. The subject is what to do with the 12th overall pick, which is where Florida is now and is likely to stay, when the choice will be between the ninth- or tenth-rated forward and the first- or second-rated defenseman.

Gulyayev is rated 8th among European skaters by Central Scouting in their preliminary listing; Sandin Pellikka third.

Reinbacher is rising. Athletic has him going 6OA. Others at 13OA.

That depends which rankings you guy by. I for one have 3 in the Top 16: Sandin-Pelikka, Dragicevic and Gulyayev. Reinbacher is just slightly out of the Top 16 for me. It's more than possible that BPA is a RHD.

He's really good and I like that he's rising but 6OA is just far too high. Could see 10OA at best right now, he shouldn't be ahead of Dvorsky, Smith, Cristall, Wood and Yager (imo he shouldn't be ahead Šalé and Sandin-Pelikka either).

I have found Corey Pronman gets a lot of picks right over the years, even when he's way off the board.

I think we also have to be cognizant that we can't have too many small body defenders. Hutson & Harris is more or less the limit for under 6' defensemen, no?

Yeah, didn't mean that he won't go that high. I meant that I wouldn't rank him that high, sorry for the confusion.

If Jack Hughes signed this offseason, do you think he would get 8M? I think he would get 9.5+
