LOL, nope, we're not trading Comtois. Sure as sh*t not doing it, with retention, for Engvall and a 5th.

Giving Toronto Max Comtois for free isn't going to help the Ducks any more than Toronto trading Conor Timmins to Anaheim for Dimitri Kulikov and a fifth-round draft pick is going to help the Maple Leafs.

Except it’s not for free?

Engvall and the fifth are worthless, and it's worse with the retention.

Why are you acting like Comtois has proven more than Engvall? The only reason I’m moving him for Comtois here is because he adds some physicality, and I’m willing to gamble on him finding some semblance of NHL quality offence. The pick is for the retention, which in actuality is barely anything, but clearly Engvall has had the more successful career to date, playing behind better players. If Engvall is worthless then Comtois is probably at risk of not even being qualified.

The reason why I'm acting like Comtois has proven more than Engvall is that his PPG average over 187 games is 0.4, while Engvall's over 218 games is 0.37.

Engvall is a UFA, or hadn't you noticed, or don't you know why that makes him worthless to Anaheim?

Hence the trade lol. Basically the same production but their careers are heading in opposite directions. As it stands I really don’t think he should have much value.

Bottom line, Comtois hasn’t had a chance playing on a good team yet and he’s physically assertive and worth a gamble. Perhaps Engvall can show more with a bigger role in Anaheim. They get a pick for their trouble and a chance to resign Engvall.

You can dislike the trade but I don’t think the value is off. It’s not like he’ll return a 2nd or something lol.

You're missing the entire point -- if Engvall "shows more with a bigger role in Anaheim" then he'll go elsewhere in July. Your blithe assertion that they'll have "a chance to resign Engvall" isn't close to the absolute certainty that Comtois will be playing with the same team in October as he did in May. THAT's why the value of your trade is not just off, it's way off. LOL, indeed.

We can revisit this thread next season I guess.
