TDL Moves

Team: 2022-23 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 10, 2023
Published: Feb. 10, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just tossing pasta against the wall to see if it sticks.
Trades
1.
CHI
  1. Myers, Tyler
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
The Hawks are taking on not just another year of $6M in cap space, but approx. $8M in cash including the $5M signing bonus. That's a ton of cash that I honestly don't know if the hawks would do, BUT I'm quite confident that Vancouver would love to save $7M in cash and get $6M in cap space for next year.

If the trade occurred TODAY...Toews/Kane Combined (in cash) would cost $966,666 in cash TOTAL

We're at 122 days of a 182 day season.

$2.9M * 50% retention * ( 182 - 122 ) / 182 = $483k per player
VAN
  1. Kane, Patrick ($5,250,000 retained)
  2. Toews, Jonathan ($5,250,000 retained)
Additional Details:
This is just for the double retention.

Hawks will need to pay the signing bonus, but then maybe there is a taker out there for a guy only making $1M in cash next year. AZ???
2.
CHI
  1. 2023 1st round pick (VGK)
  2. 2024 1st round pick (VGK)
VGK
  1. Stalock, Alex
Additional Details:
Kane Double Retained
Toews Double Retained
3.
CHI
  1. Myers, Philippe
  2. Namestnikov, Vladislav
  3. 2023 3rd round pick (TBL)
  4. 2024 2nd round pick (TBL)
  5. 2025 1st round pick (TBL)
TBL
  1. Lafferty, Sam
  2. McCabe, Jake ($2,000,000 retained)

That should be MORE than worth it for VAN. But I know they'll all be in here in a minute screaming about it.

I mean...I'm looking for picks. Brisson doesn't do much imo.

?? The hawks aren't paying anything,? And Vancouver is certainly not paying to dump cap right now

That's the point. Teams should be asking for A LOT more for paying $8M in cash. But I guess in VAN wanted to pay the $5M signing bonus, they could. VAN has $3M in cap space next year and A LOT of holes to fill. Not that they can't do it, but having an extra $6M in cap available would go a long way.

It really doesn't make sense for a rebuilding team to pay any high pics to move out cap, Vancouver has 5 million in cap space already to work with and no key ufa's to re-sign, not really the time to pay for cap dumps

I don’t think cash savings is a big deal for Van. They care more about cap savings. This summer myers is paid a 5 million bonus and then is owed only 1 million is salary. That is a tradeable contract without giving up a 3rd

Yeah, if the $5M doesn't mean much...sure. I get it. I'm not 100% sure owners feel that way, but I'm not an owner.

Vancouver can't make that trade. Teams can only retain salary on two contracts, they have already retained on Horvat for the rest of this season. Even if they could, it would be better to pay Myers signing bonus and then move him in the off season.

I'd do the Tampa trade. It gives the team two good adds for the middle/bottom 6 and blue line for both this year and at least next year. At a 2 million aav, McCabe would also likely fit at 3LD next year as well when Cole likely leaves and the team will be up against the cap again. Losing the picks will hurt down the line, but the Cup window is now for Tampa, not necessarily 5 years from now when the '24 2nd or '25 1st might have an impact on the team.
